Does h61c support turbo boost?

Go to solution Solved by JustCallMeG,

If anyone is reading this thread and is having the same problem. None of the solutions here worked, from further research and after asking around some people with the exact same board. It seems like this board is simply too low quality and doesn't support turbo boost. Switching the motherboard will probably be the best course of action.

I just bought a new motherboard along with an i5 3470. It's running fine except for the fact that the clock speed never got above 3.2 ghz which sucks as I would be losing performance and not getting that extra 400 mhz. I've tried using aida 64 stability test to get it over 3.2 but it still never got above it. Any Ideas?

What are your temps?
And also please list complete spec list so we dont have to ask for them!
The more effort YOU put in the better the result. ;)

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

What software are you using to get the speed?

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Go in to bios, from there there must be an option for turbo boost

You'r CPU go up to 3.6Ghz with turbo boost

If temp to high it will NEVER boost to anything...
Just saying if you don't show temps aren't the issue, nobody can help.

The temps never got above 60 celsius and I used aida 64 to check the core speed, I've checked the bios and turbo boost is marked on but I still only get 3.19 ghz when I look at task manager while aida is running

I have the same cpu and it shows 3.6ghz on all cores in hwmonitor under full load

AIDA 64 didn't show it to be more than 3193 mhz ever

Then I'd say corroborate with Hwmonitor and also check if turbo boost is enabled in the bios

XTU might be helpful here to determine if thermal or power limit throttling

I think it works with ivybridge?

No thermal throttling but idk where to see the power limit thing

Yeah i saw the pictures its definatly not a temp thing.
Might be the power limit, but i dont know about that.
I cant think of anything else either, cus im guessing you already went to bios and set factory defaults and stuff.

Your bios turbo power limits are set to zero.  No turbo boost when these are zero.  Default turbo time limit is 28 seconds but that is also set to zero in the bios.

TDP for the 3470 is 77 Watts so long duration should be set to that and short duration  set to about 91 Watts.

I bet that would've been fixed with a BIOS reset. ;)
Good lookin out tho!

Tried that, didn't work.

Your bios might not be setting your CPU up correctly. Try running ThrottleStop. Make sure Disable Turbo is not checked. Post lots of pictures and I will help you out.

Your new screenshots still show that you have the Long duration and short duration power limits set to 0.  The Long duration maintained is your turbo time limit.  The turbo time limit should be set to 28 seconds.

Setting those 3 items to zero will definitely prevent Intel turbo boost from working correctly.  I know you previously said that you fixed this problem.  You need to try setting these and saving these 3 items in the bios so they show appropriate values.  When you re-boot, go back in the bios and double check these settings.
