What are these plastic brackets for on motherboard?

Certain smaller coolers (like older coolers, or those that comes with Ahtlon-level CPU's) use those to clip on:

Usually you will unscrew that, even for AMD's stock coolers (again, other than those on their simplest CPU's).

Most coolers do not use that system other than simple/small coolers, small AMD stock coolers or the Wraith Prism/Max coolers that some Ryzen 7/9 CPU's come with.

Often times you will unscrew these from your board.

Was not aware of the Max/Prism coolers using these

Those are for stock AMD coolers.  Including the newest Ryzen CPUs and coolers.

Which Ryzen CPU?

Even the simplest Ryzen CPU's (1200, 2200G, 3200G) came with coolers that required you to remove these braces:

AM4 (Zen/Zen+) Ahtlons did have a cooler that needed those, but Ryzen CPU's don't.

so all the new Ryzen processors with stock coolers use it

That's only one stock cooler, most ryzen stock coolers don't use those mounts.

Alright, have never used the CPU's listed, so was not aware their coolers worked like that.

Thanks for correcting me.

Wraith coolers use the brackets now. At least the wrath prism rgb does that I got with my 3700x. And the h115i pro uses those brackets as well.

Edit im a retard who didnt scroll down.

but at least i left some new info lmao about the h115

It is perfectly understandable. I only knew about it because of my 3900x.

I didn’t look at the 3600x, so I also stand corrected that not all of the new Ryzen processors come with the Wraith Prism.

they're like the handles on your car interior.

the new Ryzen CPUs are so blazing fast at everything that the coolers need sissy bars to hold on!

Oh shoot, didn't mean to insert that screenshot in my last post..

Those are the CPU's that came with the Prism coolers by the way..
