Should i wait for ryzen 4th gen CPU

I am thinking about building a rig

I want to get a ryzen 5 3600

But i heard AMD will launch new processor (4th gen) in 2020 & they will have different socket

So if i decide to upgrade my CPU in future i also have to get a new motherboard

Is this true ?

If yes then should i wait for new CPUs ?

Edit;

Sorry i am new with this stuff

So i think i got confused

My actual question is

Should i wait for upcoming 4th gen ryzen CPU

Or should i get ryzen 5 3600 now ?

Because if i get it now & decide to upgrade CPU after 2 years

Because of new sockets coming in 4th gen ryzen i also have to get a new motherboard

Edit2:

I am actually building a completely new rig & not upgrading a old srtup

The way I look at it is :-

  1. Will you benefit from getting it now?
  2. Can you put together a budget now that should see you through the next 2-3 years?

If you answered YES to either of the above, then get it now.

Apparently Zen 3 is supposed to be 7nm+ whereas I thought it was gonna be a new iteration and not due for another few years yet.

Next year you will have a refresh

The year after you get a new gen + mobo

If you can wait 2 years, wait. If you need one now, get it now.

I upgrade only when I can no longer do the things I want to do.

AMD 5900x, 2x16GB ( G.skill F4-3600C16 ), Radeon VII, Radeon 570,  Corsair 1200i , SSD 240/500GB, HDD 640GB,1TB,5TB, 1TB NVME. Lian li 011Dyanmic XL, big ass LTT mouse-pad & stealth water bottle

Ok, do you need a PC in the next 2 years ?  If not, wait.

If you need one within the next 2 years buy now.

It's either now or go for the next gen cpu + mainboard, which is due in 2 years.  Waiting for next year's refresh makes little sense IMO..well besides buying current version on the cheap when the refresh comes out

Build now.. the increase is never as nice as they want you to think. Allocate money to a ray tracing gpu.

Some people misinterpreted was Su said. Early 2020 is when the next generation of Mobile chips and APUs come out. Those will be called Ryzen "4000" parts, but they will be built on the same Zen 2 designs as the current desktop Ryzen 3000 CPUs are based on.

Yes it is needlessly confusing. I'd get the 3600 now, and look at getting the last AM4 CPU on a couple years after they've launched the AM5 socket in the 2021+ time frame. They should still be good, and should get relatively cheaper when they're not the latest/greatest.

High confidence on the near term parts being Zen 2 mobile CPUs and APUs. Medium-high confidence on the Zen 3 chips supporting AM4.

The upcoming chips make sense as Zen 2 mobile devices as they do not currently have Zen 2 mobile CPUs out, so that is the logical next step for them. Further, releasing Zen 3 only a few months after they release the top end Zen 2 Threadripper and Zen 2 desktop seems like a bad use of resources. Zen 2 is right about when it was planned to be, but if Zen 3 is that far ahead of schedule, it would make more business sense to focus the desktop and high end desktop on pulling in Zen 3 for a decisive strike against Intel. They are at a stage where gaining market share is critical, and being able to decisively beat Intel on all fronts is what's necessary to get them that.

On socket compatibility, so far AMD have said they intend to support it with the next processor generation, and their road maps have them staying with DDR4 for Zen 3. That said, things do happen and not all plans go according to plan, so we could see them being obligated to go to a new socket. I'm thinking they'll try to avoid that if at all possible, because the AM4 installed base gives them a degree of vendor lock-in that Intel does not have. It's easier to justify spending $500 on a new CPU if that is all you really need to buy. If you also need a new motherboard, ram, cooler, and Windows 10 key, that's a *much* bigger hurdle.

The longer you wait the better it usually get ( Except Chrysler stuff, it always get worst....), so if you PC is enough for your needs now, wait until it won't get the job done, other then that just buy it now and try to ''futurproof'' your build.

Main System: Ryzen 2700, Asus Crosshair VII Hero, EVGA GTX 1080ti SC, 970 EVO Plus NVMe, Crucial Ballistix 3200mhz CL14, CM H500, CM ML240L cpu cooler.

Second System: Ryzen 2400G, Gigabyte B450 DS3H, RX 580 Nitro+, Kingston A400 SSD, Team T-Force 3200mhz CL15

If it ain't overclocked it ain't good...

The current PC I have is Pentium dual core, with 2 gb ddr2 ram, no GPU & a 150 gb hdd ?

How about getting an intel CPU ? You may get something more "stable" (temperature wise)

Not sure where you read that but I think that's been sorted as of recently. I certainly haven't had any of those issues so far and I was running a NH-D15S air tower before swapping for my Kraken AIO. I would relax and look more into it because there's definitely a lot of people on Ryzen 3000 who are super happy after passing the early teething issues. That's what you get for being an early adopter (I'm guilty of it too) but 6+ months down the line that's not an issue any more really so I wouldn't worry if I was you.

im gonna buy a 3950x with chromax black noctua 15 and tridentz memory, with r6 define case apparently you have enough space to move the second fan on the noctua 15 and make room for those rams so i should be good to go.
