BestBuy deal on All in One. Thoughts??

mboaler

I'm looking to by an all in one PC due to space issues at home. I see this on best buy and not sure if it's really bad or will do just fine.

https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/dell-inspiron-5477-23-8-touchscreen-all-in-one-pc-intel-i7-8700t-256gb-ssd-12gb-ram-windows-10/13505556

The PC will mostly be for work and some random gaming specifically DOTA 2. Will this PC run Dota 2 well or will it just be a pain to play.

Look forward to hearing any comments.

Thanks

Michael

It doesn't have a video card, so it's not going to be a great experience.

That said, the Source engine does scale relatively well, so it will run, but you'll definitely need to sacrifice resolution, settings and any expectation of running most other modern 3D games.

No dGPU or TB3, so good luck running much. I can tell you older source games like TF2 run on literally anything, don't know about DOTA.

Brands I wholeheartedly reccomend (though do have flawed products): Apple, Razer, Corsair, Asus, Gigabyte, bequiet!, Noctua, Fractal, GSkill (RAM only)

Finding an all in one with graphics cards really jacks up costs.  I can spend approx. $1500 but doesn't look like that is very possible in an AIO desktop.  Maybe I need to wait until black friday and hope something comes up.

If you're severely limited on space but would still like it to be gaming capable, you could consider a Skull Canyon NUC with integrated Vega graphics and mount it on the back of a compatible monitor. Considering most all-in-one units are pretty beefy, it should consume a similar amount of space.

Here's one to consider https://www.newegg.com/intel-boxnuc8i7hvk1/p/N82E16856102201

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

Maybe you could look at mITX. There are some super slim cases available now. I bet you could find one that can be monitor mounted. If you want a better priced AIO without a dGPU, I recommend VESA mount a intel NUC. I use a NUC as a server and for non-gaming stuff. It's great, quiet, and low power.

I'm confused, is it that important you get an AIO instead of a very small desktop?

Exactly how restricted are you? There's loads of compact case options out there. This PC is a horrible value, especially since it's the 8700T.

Either way, waiting for Black Friday is the best choice.

No dedicated GPU, this is basically a laptop without the expandability targeted at those who would purchase a low-end iMac.

As a General rule, the Intel iGPU is unsuitable for games newer than 7 years (eg most Xbox 360-era FPS would suck on iGPU.) So it is a moving goal post.

It's probably fine for regular office work or light graphics (eg photoshop)
