Posted October 17, 2019 Everyone has a preferred game or style of game, for the most part. For example I'm partial to arena shooters. My first FPS on the computer was Unreal Tournament that my dad play. Image 8 year old me listening to NPC's shouting "DIE BITCH!". It was nuts and I loved it. Played the heck out of that game and even had my first LAN at my dads house playing that game. Playing CTF on Facing Worlds or Lava Giant, deathmatch on Curse. Since then I've always had a soft spot for arena shooters. Posted October 17, 2019 My days of competitive online are long over, nowadays I'm all about great story driven experiences... linear or semi-rpg. Full out RPG games that become too slow placed and grindy though not so much. Personal Desktop": CPU: Intel Core i7 10700K @5ghz |~| Cooling: bq! Posted October 17, 2019 Mostly single player or multiplayer FPS's. Always had a soft spot for them since the very first pc we had got DOOM installed on it. So like you I've been bread by the older generation around me into liking these kinds of games.
 Posted October 17, 2019 My first ever game that got me immersed was Myst. So I love puzzle style games with lore built around them. I also love games with a dark/despair feeling. Games like Darksouls really attract me, not for the difficulty or the combat, but because its just oppressive feeling, against all odds. If a game has a good story, many things can be forgiven. Posted October 17, 2019 singleplayer games definitely, my reaction times are never fast enough to go competitive (even tho I'm young). RPG... older ones yes, new ones not so much. Either they're super grindy and I only go in once in a while to wreck havoc (Serious Sam series is good for that btw), or buried with micro-trans. Currently I play FFXV, Control and Hitman series, completed Tomb Raider series' latest 2 games. I only play BeamNG.drive among simulators and Minecraft as survival game (not as a creative build game) so these two likely don't count. I have never been a fan of story bound/story driven games, even games where there is a background story I tend to just skip through dialog and not care about the story. I have always loved creative sandbox/open world games (stuff like Minecraft, Terraria, Starbound, etc.). Another genre that I really like is puzzle style games (Overcooked, Unrailed!, Magnum Opus, Factorio, etc.) I'm impartial to competitive style FPS games like CS:GO or TF2, sometimes I'll have a lot of fun with them and sometimes I just don't. But I love Doom/Doom II, idk what it is about specifically the older doom, the newer one just isn't as fun for me. (Quake III Arena is always fun with friends) Far Cry 3 was still one of the most fun experience I've ever had in gaming, it was on a s***ty toshiba laptop at like 20 fps but god damn was it fun. Edit again: If you check my steam you'll see gmod on there, we played it a lot in middle school, it was fun at the time but I haven't really gotten back into it in years. Posted October 17, 2019 Author Nice! Interesting to see so many different tastes. I was into the tower defense games for a bit, they can be decent time wasters. 8 minutes ago, Mnky313 said: I have never been a fan of story bound/story driven games, even games where there is a background story I tend to just skip through dialog and not care about the story. Farcry 3 was great! The only other game we did a LAN with at my dads house. We thought it was so crazy immersive back then, actually being able to hide in bushes from each other and stuff. Puzzle style games I've never really been into, except for Portal. But Portal is kind of the exception, as it's such a brilliant game. This is why gaming is awesome. Something for everyone. A game could be awful to someone but loved by another. Posted October 17, 2019 Hero shooters are the main one, second to that are 2D action games like hotline miami or Noita. RPGs have some draw but i find most need to much time at once or need too much booring grind to get anywhere I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays... nothing, it just sits there collecting dust... Builds: The Toaster Project! Northern Bee! The original LAN PC build log! Treat others as you would like to be treated. #2. It's best to keep your mouth shut; and appear to be stupid, rather than open it and remove all doubt. #3. There is nothing "wrong" with being wrong. Posted October 17, 2019 Author Hell yeah, love my hero shooters as well, mainly Overwatch. Played that game since day 1 and every competitive season. Posted October 17, 2019 I also grew up on arena shooters like UT, Quake, Doom, Duke Nukem, etc... but I don't really have a preferred game genre. As long as the game is good I will enjoy it. That said, I'm very picky because I find many games to be average at best these days. Apex Legends is what I play quite often these days.
 Posted October 17, 2019 Well i love multiplayer FPS games. But im extremely picky. I grew up playing counter strike and the competitive mod for COD4 called promod. As well as wolfenstein enemy territory. TF2 ive only played for fun. Personally TF2 is as cartoony as i can go (apex legends somewhat cartoony and im okay with that). Overwatch i bought on day 1 played for a few days and havent touched since. I also think overwatch is a horrible horrible game gameplay wise....but lets not go there. Co Op fps games are fun too, killing floor 2 and payday 2. Right now im still playing rainbow six siege and have been playing that heavily since the game launched. Most of my counter strike hours are in 1.6 and counter strike source but i still have about 200 hours in counter strike global offensive. I also loved multiplayer RTS games and mostly play them for fun. I love playing the HD version of age of empires 2 multiplayer and also company of heroes 2 multiplayer. I did the whole moba thing awhile back and the only one that stuck with me was heroes of the storm. I think i didnt like the long match times of dota 2 and LoL. MMOs have knocked on my door several times but nothing has really kept my attention. I did play world of warcraft for a few expansions but havent touched that in 5 or 6 years. Posted October 17, 2019 I love smooth-playing FPS games (tis why I play Destiny 2) and RPGs. But RPGs usually have shitty (IMO) combat systems so I haven't played as many as I'd like, tis also why I have high hopes for Cyberpunk 2077. The main titles I enjoy are Destiny 2 - for it's FPS combat, RPG elements, fashion game, and playing with my friends - and BOTW - awesome exploration, really fun 3rd person combat, and again the fashion game (though that is more limited than D2's). Posted October 18, 2019 Currently I find MMORPGs interesting, but the bulk of them isn't something I desire to play. I have clocked four digits on two of them, and the genre is full of interesting history. Submarine games have also always intrigued me, but the playability hasn't hit the right mark yet. RTS was my childhood. Tiberian Sun. Red Alert. Red Alert 2. Tiberium Wars. Dark Reign. Cossacks. Sins of a Solar Empire. Generals. Age of Empires. I also missed a ton of games that would almost certainly have been big hits had I known about them back then. All that's left of this childhood today is a liking for occasional city builder games. That new Anno game Linus keeps showing is tempting me like crazy, but the price and distrust for Ubisoft keeps me from buying it. If SoaSE bumped their map sizes 10-100 fold I'd revisit it in a heartbeat.
