GTX 980ti 4k gaming

Was just wondering if anyone here games on 4k with a 980ti??? Hows the experience. I have a Gtx 980ti by Gigabyte and I wanted to purchase a 4k monitor, was wondering what to expect frame rate wise etc????? Thank You

Depends on the title obviously, but I would guess 40-50ish on medium.

Guess ill probably get 1440p, 4k probably isnt even that necessary more of an accessory.

In gaming there's not much visual difference anyways (on the same size panel). The main advantages of 4K would be recording/screenshotting stuff in full 4K, and better pixel density on large monitors. I wouldn't go for 4K unless you really wanna capture crispy screenshots (I do, lol), or want a panel over 32" but don't want a 1440p ultrawide.

What CPU are you using with it? The 980 Ti is nearly identical to the GTX 1070 in gaming performance.

That should easily handle 1440p or 4K, it's 1080p that pushes the CPU really hard.

1440p at 27 inches is likely the best sweet spot for you, you can indeed play at 4k with a 980 Ti but the advantages of 4k vs 1440p at 27 inches when gaming a very minor and if your image quality has to decrease too much you'll end up having 4k of very few details defeating the purpose.

I did in 2015/16 and some games like Fallout 4 were playable at 4k but some games like Witcher 3 were not so I played them at 1440p. 

The reason why I played them at 1440p is that most games look better at 1440p high than 4k medium.

 

Most modern AAA games are harder to run than Witcher 3 so I would use a GTX 980 ti for 1440p 75hz in 2019.

My friend got it to run at 4K 60 FPS with a GTX 970 (With the right drivers)

This is an R7 1700 so your system would perform slightly better, and instead of the 980Ti a 1070, which as I stated previously is nearly identical in gaming performance.

This video reminds me of a comment you made in another thread that I made where you said you don't play games with ray tracing enabled.

 

It totally mirrors that, which is why I have decided to not really care about ray tracing until I can play games with it enabled at high fps without spending over $1000 :).

 

As for the op, a GTX 980Ti can game at 4K fine still. You can also take advantage of Freesync now, so definitely take a look at Freesync capable monitors, or take the plunge and get G-Sync for when your frames do dip.

Oh yes, I may max out games specially something like The Witcher 3 and all but I will never go the Ray Tracing route even with a 2080 Ti.

 

I dislike the shenanigans around it, for instance every one trying to applaud "Control" for omg amazing DXR implementation so amazing much wow beautiful.

 

Just check for yourself, Ray Tracing reflections off and there is not a single reflection on the game, they didn't put a single effort on it, you NEED to use RTX reflections to actually have them and then it will make like literally every water puddle even a small dirty one in the dark become a perfect mirror, it's not even realistically.

 

What happened here is that they probably had to put so much effort and money on implementing ray tracing like it's been known to cost a lot and be time consuming that they had no time to achieve it on rasterization or another idea is that they purposely downgraded rasterization to enforce you to get ray tracing.

 

who knows... all I know is that an Ubisoft game from 2011 has better rasterization reflections than it:

It makes me worry that the future will be filled with gimmicks to make more $ and keep people buying GPUs more often.

You know, I was just playing Hitman over the weekend and was thinking about that when walking passed mirrors.

 

I think the marketing machine from NVIDIA really are trying to drive that these things either never existed, or looked like garbage before they started pushing ray tracing.

 

I also noticed that there are zero reflections in puddles in BFV when playing through the campaign, and wondered why, since I can remember in games over a decade ago having reflections in puddles and water. Thank you for making me feel less crazy.

Get a good 1440p monitor instead, even at that res you gonna have some problem maintaining 60fps in some games.
