Ryzen 5 2600 vs. Ryzen 1700x

Hello, this is my first post here. I am trying to decide on either a Ryzen 5 2600 or a Ryzen 7 1700x. From my research, the 2600 has a faster core clock. Also, game favor faster core clocks over multi core performance. So, the debate boils down to, are the two extra cores worth the sacrifice of a lower clock speed? Any answers or responses would be appreciated. They are about the same price used, so, I'm not sure what I should go for.

Are you going to do productivity work other than gaming? I personally like the idea of an 8 core processor, but the 2600 Is faster in gaming. It's Ryzen 1 vs Ryzen 2 though, so the difference isn't huge. You wouldn't go wrong either way

Strictly gaming. I don't do video editing or anything. I have looked online and have seen performance jumps with the two extra cores. Plus, I have also seen clocks on the 1700/1700x matching the oc 2600.

If you're just gaming, go for speed. I'd almost suggest going for an older Intel chip TBH, as you'll probably get better performance than older Ryzen.

OCs are never guaranteed, you shouldn't use that as a metric in your decision.

Go with the 2600 or 3600 if you can afford it, the gaming performance increases with each generation, not with cores

Older i7s still largely aren't worth it unless you're stuck with ddr3 or on a legacy platform as they either only reach parity with the R5 2600 or are more expensive still. The quad core i5's are worthless except in extreme budget scenarios.

1700 if about the same price is a better deal overall than the 2600, especially if you can OC it. It might be more beneficial later on to have the extra resources.

 

Personally I would get that over the 2600 but not over the 3600.

Debatable. The 7600k is still a decent performer and they're insanely cheap. You're also ignoring the i5 8400, which gets almost the same performance run games as the R5 3600.

I would pick the 2600 over the 1700 for gaming, might also consider the 3600 or 2700 depending on prices

On what planet? The i5 8400 gets the same performance as a Ryzen 5 2600, while to match the Ryzen 5 3600 you have to get to a 8600k

or this, consider that both the 2600 and 8400 are slightly underclocker versions of these two chips and there we go
