2080 Super VS. 2080TI

The i9 9900K is not a furnace, I have a Dark Rock 4 (non Pro) keeping mine at 5ghz with no higher temps than 79Cº

My locked i9 9900 works on an even shittier cooler Shadow Rock Slim also never exceeding 78Cº while sustaining 4.75ghz

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STOP SPREADING MISINFORMATION ABOUT IT BEING HOT, IF YOU HAVE A DECENT COOLER IT WILL WORK FINE

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STOP SAYING THE 9900K ONLY MATTERS AT 1080P HAVE YOU EVEN BOTHERED TO CHECK REALITY:

Look you're a nice guy but your bias against Intel is starting to get on my nerves

Well, you have golden samples. I have.my i7 on high end air and frequently hit 90C. And how can I be biased against intel when I have an 8th gen i7???

Maybe you have had back luck with your i7 8700K because it is a sample that came afterwards Intel done the i7 8086K binning, trust me that's shitty behavior from Intel... but you can't take your one personal experience and act like it's rule of thumb.

All I ask you is that you may say that Intel specially when overclocking is likely to exceed temps of Zen 2 across the board but it is not in any way like the FX9590, you take the issue way out of proportion going thread by thread always bashing this same "Intel is a fireplace Intel is a fireplace Intel is fireplace" when it is not nearly as applicable.

Please all I am asking is for you to be more realistic/impartial when advising others, have you ever seen myself go against AMD when it's the clear choice? on OP's case the 9900K is by every mean justified so why can't you consider it likewise?

Fair enough. I guess I did get truly unlike cause my first 8700K was the same deal. I knew the store owner so I exchanged it and after ending up with the same situation I conceded and just went about work since I couldn't afford more downtime. Here's hoping the 9900K is indeed a better situation. Haven't tested that CPU myself so Ill take your word on it.

Hi All,

Almost completed my build and I am only stuck on the GPU as the 2080 Super is £750 and the 2080TI is £1180 which is roughly a 60% increase in price.

So I was simply wondering whether or not a 2080Ti is worth it over a 2080 Super considering the performance averages 20-30% better and roughly 10 frames on average in games? Just doesn't seem worth it to me but wanted other opinions, sorry if this has been asked before I had a quick look but couldn't find this direct question.

Thank you!

The answer is yes. I bought 2 replacing my GTX 1080 tis.

I also agree with Princess Luna about the i9 9900k. The one I overclocked runs cool at 5ghz on all cores with a Noctua NH-D15 with one fan.

What does run hot is budget 2080 tis overclocked.

I can not recommend my EVGA RTX 2080 ti XC but I can recommend my EVGA RTX 2080 ti FTW3 Ultra. There is a $300 price difference.

Wow that is a hefty price difference and almost 100% more than the 2080 Super I was looking at? Are you sure it would really be worth it over the likes of a 2080 Super or even an AMD GPU? Don't want to question your judgement just very hefty

No problem. At the end of the day, I doubt you'll be disappointed with what you buy since you're getting a very high end system, no a Pentium/Athlon :D

The 2080 Ti is hands down the most powerful card on the market. It's also the warmest (laws of physics yada yada). You really want a proper dual-axial fan cooler on those

Yes but as you mentioned value wise the 2080 would be up there considering the FPS difference?

it just doesn't feel like the 1080TI to 2080TI jump is anywhere near as good as the 980TI to the 1080TI jump was and the price is insane now, compared to the 2080 Super you are looking to spend 2x more almost its just a hard jump to bring myself to do hence why I leaning more towards not going for a 2080 TI? Like you could almost SLI 2 2080 Supers for the same price as a 2080TI alone where I am

If you need the performance,yes.

I run a 4k monitor and a 3840 X 1600 monitor. With a 2080S I could not use the settings I like.

My next monitor will be a 144hz 3840 X 1600. My FTW3 Ultra can't ever do 100fps average in AAA titles at that resolution so I need even more power.

The 2080 Ti is a card you really can't go with blowers indeed so you gotta pay up a bit more to secure at least a decent type like these two:

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/hwF48d/gigabyte-geforce-rtx-2080-ti-11gb-gaming-oc-video-card-gv-n208tgaming-oc-11gc

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/pKrmP6/evga-geforce-rtx-2080-ti-11-gb-black-video-card-11g-p4-2281-kr

These are the 2 cheapest yet decent models on UK right now, but the thing is when you're already spending 1k pounds on a video card, it's probably worth adding another 100 pounds on top for a top of the line model.

I'd say that you have 2 ways to go... considering you keep the G-Sync panel.

Go all in with the 2080 Ti if you want to ULTRA ALL DA THINGS! or cheap up heavy with the vanilla RTX 2080 which is very discounted like this one:

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/jmHRsY/msi-geforce-rtx-2080-8gb-ventus-video-card-geforce-rtx-2080-ventus-8g

we're talking about 500 pounds of difference pretty much for just 25% less performance on average, it's a very solid pick like @5x5 said at the beginning.

The only draw back is that you will have to fine tune your in-game settings to keep fps high but in reality that's not the the end of the world, refer to:

Okay so much better for the Boot drive then :) Thank you for the clarification

I had to correct myself there, Samsung 970 Evo is actually TLC, MLC drives are much more expensive.

As a boot drive Western Digital and Crucial are good also, the Crucial P1 is QLC but fast for the price.

Oh thank you yes it is VERY expensive. I have them at work and liked the speed when I used them is all. But may not be worth it if TLC would work for me.

The Samsung 970 Evo is a MLC SSD, basically more durable memory than QLC, and much faster than an Intel 660p.

Edit : The Samsung 970 Evo is actually TLC, Samsung calls it 3bit MLC.

So to expand on it... I wouldn't say qlc is bad. I mean on the 660p unless you are filling it up over 95% capacity then it doesn't take the performance hit due to QLC. The endurance rating on them is still decent and I doubt anyone using them normally would hit it within 5 years (warranty time if I remember correctly).

Speed whise it is around half the speed of the 970 on paper, but in real world usage there is no noticeable difference unless your are constantly moving tons of data which I am guessing op isn't.

Now the best part of the 660p is you can get a 1tb for about 75-80 bucks and you can get a 2tb for around 150-170.

Now as for rest of OPs build I would be tempted to go with a 3900x with a Taichi or similar board for what he is spending on his current cpu and mobo choices. Plus the Taichi has 3 m.2 slots which makes it gold imo.

If I used the Samsung Evo 970 would it use PCI-E express lanes? as the 9900k only has 16 and would rather not have the GPU only having 8 to use?

It will use the 4 lanes from the PCH

Sorry treat me as dumb, what is the PCH, is that part of the chipset which is used by the sata ports and will be disabled when a M.2 is used?

The PCH is the chooser and supplements four more PCIe lanes
