2070 Max Q vs 2070, Worth the $400 increase?

Then 2070MP isn't an option anymore, stick with 2070MQ 90W if you really need every extra bit of performance

Lenovo Legion Y740 15

Tongfang GK5CQ7Z aka Eluktronics Mech-15 G2

Gigabyte Aero 15 (2019 redesign)

Hi,

Until now I was gonna buy the Zephyrus GX502 RTX 2070 which is $2399 as of now. But today, Dave2D uploaded a video about the Eluktronics MAG-15 which seems to be a way better option than the zephyrus because of the bigger battery, windows hello, SD Card, Thunderbolt 3 and so on.

My one and only issue was the Max Q 2070 in the MAG-15 compared to the 2070 in the GX502. Is it worth it to spend the $400 extra to get that bump considering I could get quadruple the RAM and double storage for that price in the MAG-15?

My workflow involves blender, photoshop, unity, gaming (mostly overwatch but sometimes games like the Witcher 3 or so) and streaming. Can someone tell me how much performance I will lose in the Max Q? And if its liquid metal pasted (by Eluktronics) can I overclock it to reach somewhat close to the Max P 2070?

About the 240Hz in Asus over the 144Hz in MAG-15, no game can really reach the 240 unless I lower down the GFX so I don't mind that.

Thanks

I'l get it liquid metal pasted so it should be fine right? My brother uses that one and his temps seems to be fine with around 80C - 85C at max load for CPU and 76C average for GPU.

The review thing is an issue but I can wait until 20th September for that.

About the other options, almost all of them seems to have Max Q 2070 for the same price as the Zephyrus, there is the Strix 3 but I don't like the look of that at all. Not open to MSI because their build quality from my experience turned out to be horrible. Razer is really overpriced. And about Gigabyte, the pricing is the issue. If you have other manufacturers you can mention em.

Did he hammer it properly?

Because thin and light. Tbh Max Q just makes the GPU perform slightly better if not the same as the GPU one step down without Max-Q that cools it well, so imo consider 2060 if you're looking out for 2070MQ.

Why LM when there are models that can handle heat well without LM

Where are you from? Budget? Preferred max weight and min battery life?

He did the unigine haven benchmark.

I am not looking for a Max Q, I was considering the MAG-15 just because it was $400 cheaper than the Zephyrus. Otherwise I am all for a Max P one.

My budget is $2500 in USA. Max weight should be 2.2 KG without the power brick it can be more provided the laptop is on the slimmer side. Battery life can be poor if it supports power delivery otherwise 4 hours is sufficient.

Even if laptops can handle the heat I think LM would give me better temps and let me use the laptop under heavy load for longer time

Isn't the Zephyrus around 2Kg? It does have a 2070 MP. I'll still consider the three mentions though.

Like I mentioned, runs hot even after undervolting. Not sure a repaste will work well or not

And it's an Asus...poor QC+QA

Hmm, do you know the performance difference between a 2070MP and 2070MQ? I know a lot of people say the MQ is just the MP of the lower variant but even so compared to a 2060, it has more VRAM (which I need for blender) and more CUDA cores.

If the difference is not huge I am fine with the 2019 Aero since the port selection is great and the battery life is also sufficient.

quite significant - 2070MQ is just slightly faster than 2060 (considering both are 80w variants) and comparable to 1070N while 2070N is comparable with 1080N

If thats the case, I guess I have to go for Scar 3 with 2070. That one has fine cooling right? I can handle the gamery flashiness if its for performance.

How about this? Gigabyte Aero 15 2019 2070MQ with LM and I could maybe overclock it somewhat closer to 2070 N?

Edit: I will also wait for more reviews on the Eluktronics MAG-15 if they are not as good I am going for the Aero.

It's a Tongfang chassis...need to wait for 'proper' reviews, reading only 1 review from Dave2D isn't enough

Yeah I know, this is why I mentioned that I am going to wait for the reviews. I have around 2-3 weeks before I need to get one.
