Stuttering at 120FPS

Overtime I have noticed more stuttering while playing games using V-Sync. I use a 60HZ monitor so if I disable V-Sync I get a lot of screen tearing however, today I decided I would turn off V-Sync because of the stuttering and when I did I experienced major stuttering even though MSI afterburner said I was running the game (Overwatch) at 120-150 FPS. I don’t know the exact model of my Monitor but I was wondering if it is the issue because it is 5 years old.

Intel i3-7100

RX 580 XFX 8GB

Samsung 850 Evo SSD

4GB x 2 DDR4 2133MHz

Well the build is unbalanced... 2c/4t processor with 2133mhz memory is not enough for the RX 580, your stuttering is likely your CPU being stressed too much, specially if you have too much going on the multi-tasking side.

 

Can you opt for Triple-Buffered V-Sync in specific? How's your OS health? maybe DDU in safe mode and reinstall AMD Radeon drivers fresh new?

You could go into Radeon settings to lock the framerate to 120. I would look at possibly moving up to an i5/i7 or moving to Ryzen.

least he could do is oc the memory if he's on a chipset that allows him to do so

Out of experience framerate cappers usually causes me a lot of stuttering/tearing... AC Origins and The Witcher 3 were the last ones I tried it out on a 4k60hz TV, framerate capper to 60fps would provide a much worse experience than V-sync.

 

I still think it's simply a case of unbalanced system... I recall this video from hardware unboxed where a Pentium G4560 with a GTX 1050 Ti played smoothly and fine but when upping the GPU to GTX 1070 there were some stuttering to be noticed... frametime becomes too inconsistent.

Well like I stated above I've never had a single personal case where framecappers were a good solution, have you? (not doubting on the solution, legit question).

RTSS works perfectly? You limit the fps to where the CPU can keep up with the drawcalls.
