I didn't mind them at first when some of them were relatively humorous. Now they're all over the place, overused and with the rise of websites like 9gag and Funnyjunk, the overall quality of the meme concept went further down than Satan. The only memes that make me laugh are the ones that you'd consider yourself going to hell for laughing at. I.e., this.

 

I will admit to cracking a smile at things I really should not, it's bad but I will admit finding them darkly amusing.

 

The human condition eh.

I never tire of anime memes myself. 

Some of the normal ones that surface on reddit get annoying though. Others are just boring. It depends really. 

And then there's doge. It needs to die in a fire.

On this forum or just in general? On this forum they are awful and I would be glad if they were banned since 99.9% of the posts related to memes are just a single, overused and unfunny meme picture that contributes nothing whatsoever to the conversation. Protips: if all your thoughts on a subject can be summarized in a generic picture, then chances are your opinion about the subject is irrelevant and it's just a waste of time posting it.

 

I really hate how reddit treats memes as well. I like the icing on a cake analogy. Memes should be treated like icing. The vast majority should be delicious cake (i.e. a well thought out post with some substance), and then you might add some icing on top from time to time to make it slightly more enjoyable to consume (throw in a meme maybe each 10:th post to lighten up the mood). As soon as you start making entire cakes out of icing everyone gets tired of it and feels sick though.

Reddit is like a factory dedicated to making icing. It makes me sick just looking at the place.

Speaking of which.. My favorite / the first meme really (People would add in what they wanted to the bottom..) It's not really like any memes nowadays, but I think this was pretty much the first "meme" So anime ones should really be higher rank than the stupid ones. (They are already, but still xD)

Well the legal age of consent in Japan is 13, so.... Also she's a high school student, so she not really too young. (No Lolicon going on here!) What exactly the one for Do it for the money I showed was even for I don't exactly remember.

It reminds me of something similar, the demotivational-poster.

A few guys started using them on fora and it's funny. Than the really creative people turn it into something really epic. 

Shit gets so funny people start collecting the fun stuff into one place (either a website or topic etc)

Than the mass of people find it. And than some people in the mass with either the worst humor possible, or with a serious mental issue, start creating them. We are at that last stage now.

Don't get me wrong, I really like the original ones. 

And sometimes, after seeing a 1000 shitty memes, one that remembers you of the original memes shows up. But the 1000 before that mess it up.

I've especially had it with the facebook trends like those bitstrips and now the "...be like" facebook groups, which are basically derived from memes.

So yeah that's my opinion.

Admittedly, anime has a problem with taking a character that looks like a child in every way but making them be in high school and somehow 16. 

... Talking about gaming the system.
