Throwing a GPU in an oven won't fix that kind of damage. It would only help if some solder-connections were loose, it literally cannot fix broken components.

Greetings,

I have an rx 580 that I have bought used and i managed to break it day 1 due to PC truning on and off 3 times in a row due to a loose cable.

Long story short I was able to smell a burning smell coming from the gpu and now when I turn the PC on, The rgb lights flicker and I get no signal whatsoever.

At the repair shop they said it turned on for a few minutes then turned off and started flickering again.

here is the catch, they said they can repair it , but I have to pay the minumum of 100 euros whitch is already 80% for what I've paid for it.

So do these symptoms qualify my GPU for an oven sauna ? Or should I try something els ?

Can you get another one for $120 or so, like you paid for this one?  If so, then why not experment?  If it works, great (which I doubt it will). If it doesn't you're just about another $20 on top of the $100 repair fee, for another one.

80% was apperantly wrong XD
well I paid 150 euros for it .

I mean I would experiment but If it will damage it further I might aswell wait to find someone who can do it for cheap .

but Im collecting opinions if I should do it right now .

So do you think it could be a borken capacitor ?

They said something about a capacitor that coukd be overheating.

I opened the GPU and it looked fine as hell.

Putting your GPU in an oven will send lead-based solder wafting around in it and make your home reek to the point that it's uninhabitable. If you're going to try this (don't), do it outside in a toaster oven that you don't care about.

It could be anything. Only way of knowing would be inspecting.

Not all damage is visible to one's eye.

Oh then holy hell I can't do that to my daily oven :3
I kinda knew that yeah.

So far it doesn't seem like a good idea to do so

True that..

Well I supose this concludes this thread, since I've got my answer that it wont help to throw it in the oven ..

No, you can't fix it by placing it in an oven... very rarely you fix modern video cards  using that method.

Most likely a mosfet in the VRM died (chip dead) ... no matter how much you heat the solder under the chip, the chip will still be dead and must be replaced... if that's the issue.

I sleep better at night knowing that I'm not the reason someone is sleeping in their car, can never use their oven again and only got an extra couple of weeks out of their GPU for it.. ;)
