Soooo, im building this new system in the Thermaltake Versa H15 and attempting to put the dvd drive in but it hits a piece on the mobo. Not really sure what to do here as i feel this would happen in another case unless i get a much larger one. The mobo is Asrock b450m pro4.

Wow, that's some really poor design on Thermaltake's part. Even if there was no component there, you would still have a drive in front of your motherboard.. IMO you really shouldn't accommodate for components that wont properly fit in the system.

Also, the cable routing for the 24 pin looks like it would be quite annoying (just like it was on my Thermaltake case).

But yeah, I feel like a larger case or not having an optical drive would be the only solution here.

I mean... DVD Drive on 2019...? Do you really need it?

Like you stated there's no way to fit it since Thermaltake clearly shrugged to the existence of these on this case design and cabling the SATA cables will be a pain too, not much to do there without trying to mod something.

If they're building a system in 2019 with a DVD drive, they probably need it.

OP, I'd get a different case.

Not really, lots of people will simply install it to keep using old hardware they already have, given how pretty much everything that'd benefit from an optical drive can be replaced by USB solutions, it's always valid to just poke in the question.

The system is for a friend of the family that owns a small flower shop, i dont think she "needs" a dvd drive, but i will just return the drive and grab her a usb one if she really needs it. Super annoying that thermaltake overlooked this. Why put a slot for one if it aint gunna fit with the mobo?

New and smaller drives fit just fine. It the older and slightly longer ones that have the issue.

So either get smaller drive or external.

I may be ignorant to the fact as i dont personally use optical drives, but how is a newer one going to be any smaller? Disc sizes havent changed?

Gotcha

I found the issue: It seems to only works if your mATX motherboard isnt full size mATX (9.6"x9.6")

https://pcpartpicker.com/b/wPcYcf

https://pcpartpicker.com/b/nzGG3C  (board is only 215mm/8.5" long)

https://pcpartpicker.com/b/xftgXL (same as above)

Of course I say that, and then I find this:

https://pcpartpicker.com/b/7VfH99

Which it appears the DVD drive might be a bit shorter than a lot of asus ones....
