Solar powered keyboard?

Boinbo

I'd say probably because it's a $40 keyboard that isn't mechanical, and keyboards can last so long on a set of batteries these days, or just be rechargeable. Overall I think it's impractically expensive and battery life is not an issue in modern wireless keyboards

What's so interesting about it?

It can run on any light source.

it MUST NOT be rechargeable, so no one should game at night

I don't want it, I'm just wondering why I've never heard of it before, as it sounds very innovative.

Its only useful if you need a wireless keyboard and are too far out in the sicks to get replacement batteries if they die.

Think... remote research or something similar.

It's a gimmick

There's so much room in the keyboard that you could easily add a flat battery in way less area the solar cells use... and you still have a battery or super capacitor inside that gets charged by the solar cells.

You can make a keyboard with a lithium battery and have it charge enough in 5-10 minutes from a usb port and that's enough to work for a few weeks. Leave it charging for an hour or two and they'll last 6 months or more.

It's unlikely you're gonna be so far away from a power source that solar cells will be critical to power your keyboard...

Even there you're probably gonna have some solar panel or some generator and a usb charger.

Worst case, you're gonna have some hand generator (like those flashlights that charge as you shake them, or a dynamo from a bike)

What good is a working keyboard when your computer is dead... the pc has electricity so your keyboard can charge from it.
