Ryzen 3600X or 2600X?

Morning everyone, I'm gonna be looking to upgrade after the new series of ryzen drops as my I7 6700K really doesn't hold up in newer titles unless I limit my FPS to avoid a bottleneck, my question is, do you guys think it's better to go with a 2600X as it's almost guaranteed to have a price reduction, with either a 2nd gen board or a 3rd gen if they have backwards compatibility, or get a 3600X and a 3rd gen board in one of the bundles that a company like OCUK would be doing. It may be possible for me to push to the 3700X but I don't know if it's worth it as I only use my PC for gaming so I don't think I'd need the extra cores.

Realistically I'm just looking for bang for buck while still beating out my old CPU.

Since you're upgrading from the 6700K the 3600X is a no-brainer IMO

Why's that ? 

Until we see proper in depth performance we can't really say If it's worth the £XX more than the newly reduced 2600X

 going from 4c-8t to 6c-12t With a minimum of 13%ipc gain over previous gen. If I remember correctly they were pitting the 3600x against the 8700k and it was performing anywhere between 2-22% better depending on the title. That being said if you need a chip now all of the 2000 series amd chips can be had for far cheaper now in prep for 3k series. Might as well shoot for the stars and go 2700x if that's ur case.

You're right. Guess I was a little too much on the AMD hype-train. I would suggest waiting and see what Zen2 bring to the table when reviewers gets hands-on.

Wait for reviews. But it seems like the 3600 is the way to go.

I agree with @GoldenLag, 3600X may well end up being better but that's just going from the relatively small amount of results AMD has presented at Computex and such. But I also doubt that AMD would formulate so much hype if the 3600X had minor improvements over the previous gen - but reviews should help out. I'm sure you can hold out for 2-3 more weeks?

 

I think the only other thing you'll have to consider is motherboards. Apparently the X570 is going to be significantly pricier than the previous AMD chipset mobos so X470 may be the way to go there.

unless the 2600x ( under 100usd, i can see microcenter doing that) is reduced to something ridiculous 3600x is the way to go, the 3600x is likely faster than a 2700x.

I'd say you should wait for the new Ryzen CPU's to launch in July, see their performance, and if you decide not to go with that, then the 2nd gen Ryzen would get price cut.
