S12iii 450w vs corsair cx 550

hello_there_123

Which one would be better suited for a system that consumes way under 450w, like most single cpu+gpu systems. I heard that the s12iii has been improved a lot and features better topology, and protections esp dc-dc instead of group reg but i am concerned about the noise and the overall quality.

I'd go with the Corsair. Hard to argue with their reputation.

Screwdriver specs: Long, pointy. Turns things. Some kind of metal.

Main rig:

i9-7900x | Asus X299-Prime | 4x8GB G-Skill TridentZ @3300MHz | Samsung 970 Evo 500GB | Intel 5400S 1TB | Corsair HX1200

unRAID server:

Xeon  E5-1630v4 |  Asus X99-E WS | 4x8GB G-Skill DDR4 @2400MHz | Samsung 960 EVO 250GB cache drive | 12TB spinning rust | Corsair RM750X

FreeNAS server:

AMD something-or-other | Asus prebuilt sadness | 8GB DDR3-1600 | 9TB magnetic storage | Potential fire threat

HTPC:

i7-4790 | GTX1650 | Dell Sadness | 12GB DDR3-1600 | Samsung 860 250GB | 1TB magnetic storage | James Loudspeaker SPL3 x2 | Corsair SF450

So you don't care if the Protection is lacking, the PSU not that great and might not even hold a candle to the competition, as long as the right label is on the PSU??

The S12-3 doesn't seem to have OCP on minor rails. That#s a major disadvantage.

And there aren't many good Reviews. The 500W Version in the Test I've seen had rather high ripple.

So either be quiet Pure Power 11 or not the Seasonic.

Where did you find that it's DC-DC?

That's not DC-DC, that's dual Mag Amp for the S12-3.

The difference:
one is Analogue, the other digital.

One requires load, the other does not.
