CPU recomendations

Hi guys, am starting my own gaming build and looking for recommendations on a good Intel CPU.

my build so far consists of:

- MSI Z390-A Pro Motherboard

- G Skill Trident DDR4 3000MHz RGB RAM

- Samsung 970 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 1TB

- Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080 Founders Edition

- EVGA SuperNOVA G3 Modular 750W Power Supply

 

I'm looking to play most triple-A titles on it and MMO's such as: SW Battlefront, Farcry, Fallout, Tomb Raider, and Apex, etc

How about that Zen 2? wait for 10 June for E3 it's been hype so much that it's worth it to watch, Navi and Zen 2 benchmarks probably will be shown there.

If you just want to throw money away, like I did: 9700k 9900k

I would strongly advise against higher end CPUs since this board is not exactly the most appropriated on the regards of power delivery.

I don't really have a budget as it's something that I wanted to put enough money into to have a high-performance gaming pc, but also wasn't sure how much money that would mean lol.

 

I haven't yet bought any parts as I've still been putting more research into cpu's as you can tell. Thanks for the advice Princess Luna, is there another motherboard you'd recommend for a higher end cpu?

Sure, the Gigabyte Aorus Elite Z390 is the cheapest motherboard that will run any CPU from 9th gen including the i9 9900K

 

However if gaming is your priority you can settle for the i7 9700K on the Aorus Elite, a cooler like the Dark Rock 4 or NH-U12A would already be enough on the CPU department.

 

Then you need 3000mhz~3200mhz memory 2x8gb (16gb) configuration for dual channel, with these covered up you can pick w/e GPU you can afford without running into bottlenecking.

Then if you havn't bought anything yet i would strongly advise to wait for zen 2...intel stuff is really looking ''last gen'' right now.

AMD will be cheaper, have extra features and the CPU's will be just as fast or faster and the X570 motherboards are awesome...PCIe 4.0 etc.

this may be a dumb question but what is the benefit of using dual channel?

in theory double, in reality 180% the memory bandwidth. Helps with frame rate stability and even average frame rate in games.

As far as I can tell you have a last gen GPU in the list as well

$2000 for top of the stack gaming rig without going insane, $1500 for something more mainstream and 1440p 60fps and 1080p 144fps in everything, $1000 can do about a mid tier gaming rig for 1080p 144fps (so lower graphics settings).
