3600 vs 3600x. If I OC aren't they the same?

For reference, my 2600X did 4.2GHz all core OC.. My 2600 can only do 4.1GHz..

So amd has the ryzen 5 line up on their site.

What is the difference between the x version and the other one? 

Can't I just overclock the non x version and get same performance? Both basically have the same clock speed.

Yeah, but some 3800x will be bad, some 3700x will be good.

its the stock diff, and making some extra cash, also prob better stock cooler such as 2700 vs 2700X

Overclocking the non-x variant to match the potential of the x one is something that has been advised for a long time already, you only need the higher model if you absolutely need to max out your OC'ing and is ready for it.

 

Back on the first gen, only the 1800X really could go 4.1ghz all cores... it will be the case the 3800X will achieve a final higher clock most of the time but this difference in my opinion when you already have a full packed 8c/16t CPU is pointless if you can spend more than the 3700X cost just go with the 12c 3900X already.

Yes, the 3600 and 3600x should OC about the same, the difference will be almost entirely dependent on the silicon lottery

The 3600 will be the best buy, just like the 1600 and 2600 before it.

i would guess their max oc is about 100mhz apart going by past ryzen cpus.

yeah, my friend has a 2700X on ample cooling only able to do 4.1ghz, while his 2600 (prev cpu) could do 4.3
