spend more money on mobo or cpu

????

Not a clue. You've not given us any details to go off so how are we supposed to make a judgement?

Generally you want to spend more on a CPU than a motherboard, as it usually just makes the most sense.

But it's hard to put a percentage or something on that, because it depends on what you want in the system.

But why spend, for example, 120 USD on a Ryzen 3 and 120 USD on a board when you could also get a Ryzen 5 and a 80 USD board, which will perform way better?

I would reccomend B450 and Athlon for zen 2 if you want a upgrade later on.

With Ryzen it's a little different because the processors are priced better than Intels.. With Intel it's easy to say okay my 8700k/9700k cost $400, a $200 motherboard will be a great pair..

You can't do that with Ryzen. Just because the processors are cheaper doesn't mean a cheaper motherboard is always the best idea.

I spent $150 for my R5 2600 and over $200 on my motherboard.. I wanted a nice motherboard for upgrades and other connectivity reasons and I wouldn't have directly benefitted from a 2700X and a cheaper motherboard..

Everyone is different, a $120 B450 Tomahawk would work for most people..

It's all about what you need and the features you desire.. I don't agree with what's mentioned above because a 2600(x) is just as good as a 2700(x), just has 2 less cores..
