I think my old monitor just died. :(

So I was just sitting here, listening to the Halo 4 soundtrack, when I started to smell warm/burning plastic and smoking dust. I walked around and noticed that my old CRT monitor was on, even though there was no input. I turned it off and.. Voila! The smell was gone. I used a thermometer to see how warm it was and it was about 60C. Now it won't turn back on. RIP, monitor.

I was using it for my grandma's old computer, too. And I was in the middle of installing XP again. What a blow to the balls. Thankfully, I use my bulletproof AOC 2236Vw.

Well in that case it does kind of suck, but still either a new cool monitor will come, or just spend a nickel on another CRT.   (My condolences on the loss of the only monitor though)

I think it's about 10 years old. I think it was my uncle's, but then he got my grandpa's computer (even though I was supposed to) and he gave me his old monitor and computer.

RIP monitor. My friend still has 4 CRTs that are working that he uses for his servers and random computers. I remember the days of CTR's.

I remember my majestic crappy CRT. I had it until 2008 or something when I got a 1280x1024 LCD from my uncle. (Then in 09 or 10 I got my main 1600x900 screen. Earlier this month I got my Hanns-G 1600x900 to replace the 1280x1024.)

 

We still have my dad's old CRT in the basement. It's been down there for several years, its only sunshine coming through a tiny dirty window. The only use it gets anymore is testing computer stuff down there.

 

EDIT: Wait, it started working again? Um, ya should plan on replacing it soon.

Yep. I started it again, and it seems happy.  :huh:

Might want to clean dust out of the monitor to avoid having it heat up again. But its great that it is working (turned it off before it caused damage)
