Minecraft adding "Mods" help

Hello!

So, I was debating on playing mod packs, or just playing simple "normal" Minecraft. 

I would like to play the newest update of Minecraft due to the last time I REALLY played, was about 3 years ago, and there is already alot of cool new stuff.

 

I know things like Optifine and such but have not a single clue how to add them.

 

Is there any way of adding more mods too? Such as the OreMinner I think the name is? Where you break one ore and it breaks them all in the vein? 
I like these kinds of mods that make things a bit more simple.

You can follow this link for instructions for Optifine. It has been years since I last modded MC. With optifine you can also find other visual mods like SEUS packaged with optifine.

use curse forge esay simple and fast, u can add any mod on curse to the game through forge, u just need java

Forge isn't up to date tho right?

I know there's Optifine and shaders for 1.14, maybe you can find a few others but until Forge updates to 1.14 there wont be a lot of options.

Optifine for 1.14? do you have a download? Everywhere I look people say its not out yet.

Even the makers of Optifine say its not out yet.

wait I confused myself. I tried getting 1.14 modded, failed, then hopped back to 1.13.2. Stupid me

Don't download any of the files saying they are Optifine 1.14.  Keep to the main site and keep an eye on the preview section.  Once the dev gets a preview out, it will show up there.

So far by what I can tell, a lot of modders and plugin developers are waiting for 1.14.1.  1.14 is quite buggy.  Especially on the server side, I'm still dealing with the blasted light bug that shows up and trade lamas not despawning like they should.
