So Steam In-Home Streaming Who Has Tried it Yet?

orangecat

I wish I had the beta *wink wink nudge nudge*

I'm not saying I'd give you my log-in credentials to use, but I'm not denying it either.

I have just tried it and it is awesome! This is what I have tried so far:

Server:

CPU: i5 3570k

GPU: GTX 660 2GB

RAM: 16GB

OS: Windows 7

Client:

HP Probook 4525s, Windows 7

CPU: AMD P340 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo

GPU: ATI Mobility Radeon 5000 Series

RAM: 3GB

Network:

Gigabit wired to ASUS RT-N56U router.

Wireless to laptop 2,4 GHz, 802.11n. In the same room as the router

Borderlands 2 ran at 1080p 30 FPS without any issue at all.

Bioshock Infinite ran at 1080p ~55 FPS and no issues there either.

All settings were on highest possible and the network usage was around 15 Mbit/s! (1,9MB/s)

Even using the keyboard and mouse on the laptop felt instant! I am having a nerdgasm! Can't belive that i can now play all my games in highest settings on my 4 year old laptop, it is ridiculous!

Edit: I saw you on the steam forum Kilobytez, nice to see people from LTT forum over there!

My only problem is the mouse seems to jitter a bit but other then that the input lag isnt all that bad.

I have the beta. I've tried it out with a few games and when it works, it's awesome. It does have it's fair shares of issues, but it is in beta. I'll upload a video later tonight. I was streaming games to some shitty HP computer that has some AMD HD 3xxx integrated GPU I think, and it worked quite well. I was getting like 1.5ms of latency on Ethernet. Can't try wifi, as I don't have a working laptop in the house, and every computer we have is wired only.

I really hope that eventually someone hacks it like someone did with Nvidia's SHIELD streaming service. By that I mean hack it to stream to a computer outside your home network.

 Motherboard: MSI Z97S Krait Edition █ CPU: Intel i7-4790K █ GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTX 780Ti █ RAM: 8GB AVEXIR DDR3 1600  █ Storage: 120GB Kingston HyperX SSD + 1TB Seagate Barracuda HDD

tried it for 10 minutes, its a resource hog just cause 2 ran like shit spiking down to 30 and up to 60, it was stupidly unstable cpu usage was at 100% during the whole process and when i run the game again alone in my computer it never passed above 60% even looking at my stream PC you seriously notice the frame drops, i know its the steam software because it was on a wired connection trough a low end linksys router whit 10/100 ports, network usage never passed the 30% mark on both systems and during the game menus there wasn't noticeable lag, it was instant looking at booth screens at the same time

setup process was supper easy 2 clicks here and there and you are good to go, valve has to seriously improve the performance of the program

both pc spec if you care

stream pc

i5 2400 at stock clock

8gb of 1333mhz ram (2x4GB)

evga gtx 560 factory overclock

2gb of 1333mhz ram (256mb dedicated to video)

intel HD graphics

this is one of the greatest thing that has happened to me recently, and it happened on this forum, those involved have my eternal gratitude http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/198850-update-alex-got-his-moto-g2-lets-get-a-moto-g-for-alexgoeshigh-unofficial/ :')

Wow you just reminded me about it. I accidentally enabled it months ago when trading between my mule accounts on tf2 :/

It's really not that fantastic...

EDIT: apparently that was in home sharing, yeah that does suck.

It tends to favor anywhere from 15-20FPS for me. Still trying to make it work properly.
