New GPU rtx worth it

Are the rtx cards really worth it or should I wait a little more with my 1060.

Vram maxing out new games and it only runs good on high gfx setting not higher.

Man my R9 Fury 4gb doesn't max its VRAM and runs Ultra 60fps 1080p on any title a throw at it...something doesn't seem right here

 

 

nm just looked up the benchmarks, makes sense but still doesn't make sense

Vega 56 used on eBay is a good upgrade, 2 more GB of ram and it's HBM as well.

I've got a ryzen rig I planed to upgrade now its a 2400g b450m 16gb 3200mhz gtx 1060 2100 core 9ghz memory play new games at 1080p or more need the power for future use too.

Higher on new game I can play new games at high some at ultra but not all and is not good for future gfx features its a 6gb.

If you are running out of VRAM at 1080p I am just not sure how you have settings that do that across so many titles.  Theres like 1 or 2 that will take over 6gb out there Im aware of. 

 

I can understanding wanting more, but your Quad Core will neuter any upgrade GPU you get past 1060.  Heck that may be part of your problem now getting.

 

But that 9ghz of memory though, that makes me totes jelly

"worth" is subjective.

Nobody except you can decide if it's worth it because nobody else knows your income and financial status and disposable income.

To leverage the advantages of upgrading past the 1060 6gb you will need a CPU upgrade.  That, will also depend on what GPU you decide is what you want.

 

If you say, I want to spend $800 on an RTX 2080 what CPU should I get, I Can then help you with min maxing within your specific B450 chipset.  (same with the others)

 

You have to give us concrete somethings to work off.

 

EDIT - if it were me, and I am a gamer - I would rid myself of that quad core before I would upgrade that GPU.  But that's my personal preferences.

@Brass_01 and Ill answer your first post - No, they are not worth it unless you are into Ray Tracing and can leverage the entire potential of that GPU.  I think you should eek out your 1060 first by actually creating a path to upgrade, not just willy nilly replacing parts.  I.E. your B450 chipset is good enough to get a better CPU, which will help your current GPU provide more frames and less latency.  In fact if you were to have slapped a 1080 in that rig you would be sorely disappointed in its inability to shove the 5 lbs of frames in the 3 lb bag your CPU is creating.  It just wont do it.
