1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8?

kris44dad

Of these two DNS services, which is preferred?

Google at address 8.8.8.8 or

CloudFlare at adress 1.1.1.1?

Why?

If all you care about is response time, pick the one that is faster for you. Otherwise, both have pretty much the same level of security. 1.1.1.1 was leased to CloudFlare by APNAC as part of a privacy project, 8.8.8.8 is obviously Google who likes data.

1.1.1.1 because its not google and for me it was faster

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

For speed you cannot beat google. Their servers are everywhere, in every country.

Not in case of Cloudflare which has consistently been faster. And their committment to privacy is why most people go with it. It literally does 2 most important things expected from DNS. Speed and privacy. Why would you even consider Google lmao since it doens't offer either of these two properties?

do an actual dns benchmark.  it will tell you which one is the fastest for where you are located.

cloudflares 1.1.1.1 is generally faster than googles 8.8.8.8

however, personally i prefer quad9  9.9.9.9 as they do blocking for known malware sites. which to me is more valuable than the slight speed increase

Just saying that google latency is the fastest, doesn't mean i'm using it.

I don't care about privacy, i used google dns before, but since its no use for opening government blocked website, i now use dnscrypt.

For most scenario's, Cloudflare usually has a faster dns response time then google, although for a lot of others google could be shown to be faster. For me, 1.1.1.1 is faster then 8.8.8.8, but a friend who only lives a few miles away has a dns benchmark which shows the opposite. Google and Cloudflare are very close on a privacy standpoint, as both have promised to delete temporary logs every 24 or 48 hours, although Cloudflare has another company overseeing that they will. It should all depend on speed, and who you would rather work with.

I suppose I like a chairs a little too much.

the best dns is your own!

There is no enemy. The foe on the battlefield is merely the manifestation of that which we must overcome. The doubt, and fear, and despair. Every battle is fought within. Conquer the battlefield that lies inside you, and the enemy disappears like the illusion it is.
