Is it worth the effort to overclock?

When you find out you have the need to overclock, everything is too late.

it will already become a potato

This. (within reason)

So find a stable overclock,.. OC from day1 and enjoy it the entire lifespan of the PC.

Sandy Bridge being everyone's fav...

Day One. (at a time way back when)

#2600k/2700k 4.5Ghz-4.6Ghz+more (Hyper212+)

#CinebenchSCscores #SSDs #2400Mhz+OCDDR3

Kept up with multiple generations of powerful GPU increases without much minfps issue until recent years.

Glory Days for many years.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

If he got a decent motherboard, he can turn on multi core enhancement, that boost all cores to the max turbo frequency!

Does ryzen have multi core enhancement.

What was the reasoning for going with the H60? Is your case very a confined space?

Incredibly. I have a Cougar QBX mini-itx case. The thing is tiny.

Ill tell you from the perspective of someone who has gone through the fun but sometimes tedious process of learning about OC'ing.  Just do it if you need it for some reason.  The 2 things I could think of:

1) You have a lot of CPU heavy productivity tasks you are running (not just running benchmarks in CB), and them finidhing faster would improve your overall quality of life and make your job/day more efficient.

2) You have specific proof in gaming or other scenarios that you are not "GPU bound", in which case you would see FPS or other improvement from increasing CPU speed

I was previously in the #2 category, with SLI on 1080p.  I spent a good amount of time learning the basics of OC, got frustrated at times, and with help from forums (and some awesome people on this forum!) I now have a very stable OC.

However, I have since then upgraded to 1440p and single GPU, and I am 100% GPU bound on the settings I run games at now.  Even at bone stock settings, still 100% GPU bound and no difference at all in FPS/performance.  The main difference...when I boot with the OC profile, I can hear the CPU fans more when gaming for a while.  I cant even hear CPU fans when I keep the default settings, the only audible part is the GPU fans.  I am happy that I learned a lot about OC'ing, navigating the BIOS, and am way more comfortable with the settings/menus I had no clue about before...but I did spend a ton of time doing that.

TL;DR - if you have the time and it will give you a tangible benefit, go for it!  But depending on your rig, you may not actually need to at all.
