Wait for Zen 2 or i7 8700

Currents specs:

i5 8400

Z370 pro 4

g skill 2666 mhz (2993oc)16gb

rtx 2070 msi ventus

cooler master hyper 212x

antec negold 650w

Is it worth to upgrade my current cpu to an i7 8700? my current mobo's vrms are not that good for oc so i'll stick with the base clock speed.

Or is it a better option to see the price of zen 2 and buy a new mobo (and cooler?) i can rma the gskill ram and get faster clock speeds since its still new.

which one will be better in terms of price and performance? I am currently playing in 1440p 144hz freesync (gsync driver) And want to increase my fps a bit more.

from an i5-8400??

No, not worth it, wait. Because it doesn't cost you anything. And if Ryzen 3k Series is awesome, you don't regret buying the wrong CPU.

Personally I would wait till zen2. everything we know currently are rumours except for the demo at CES this year.

I think once zen2 launches it will be the processor line of the next few years. Intel still stuck at 14nm, troubles with 10nm, AMD already shitting out 7nm

Well, nobody knows how well Zen 2 will perform.  So, I can't comment on how much of an up or sidegrade that will be.  That's mostly due to AMD being silent about it.  As for the 8400 to the 8700.  Eh, maybe.  The 8700 is more likely to help you with higher refresh rates, but I'd still wait for Zen 2 then weigh your options unless you really need to jump the gun now.

Yea budget wise and also performance wise i5 8400 to i7 8700 at 1440p doesn't give me that much fps anyway because my gpu does all the work, I'll just wait and see I'll just keep the mobo and ram for now I guess.
