Please help Power points are vlcs

im trying to open my online homework document (.pptx) and its opening up as a vlc thumbnail , i have no idea what this is or how to fix it

Is the file not being hosted on your own computer?

you could also just make a text document , rename the extension to .pptx and then change the default program like that

its downloading from this dumb cengage website

where is it downloading to?

If you're using Windows Explorer, go in configuration / options and check "Always show file extensions"

Then make sure the file you download has the .pptx extension or whatever Powerpoint uses these days. If it doesn't, add it yourself.

 

VLC may have configured itself to automatically try to play files without extensions, and maybe that's why it shows up.
