Retail worker suggests that I get a better mobo

TomasFr

Yesterday I went to a local tech store to discuss things and as I showed a worker what mobo I was considering, https://www.netonnet.se/art/datorkomponenter/moderkort/amdsocketam4/gigabyte-b450m-ds3h/1006079.13678/?utm_source=prisjakt.nu&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=prisjakt_prisjamforelse&dclid=CKSTsfW7w-ACFYWLsgodKhgPqg, he instantly bacame doubtful and suggested that I get a more expensive one and ATX because he thought the mobo would be the first thing to die on me. Is this genuine feedback or a way of making me buy more expensive stuff from them? Is the ASUS TUF B450M-PRO GAMING worth it? Is the MSI B450 MORTAR good?

I think I'll get the ryzen 2200g but I wanna see what happens when the 3000-series comes out.

Any help is very much appreciated!

The MORTAR is Micro-ATX.

The MORTAR is indeed good, I have it in my system and it works pretty well, and it's also good for OCing.

If you don't want to OC at all, then go for the DS3H. It won't 'die early' lol

By and large, mobos don't just suddenly die like that, unless you're really, really pushing overclocks and you blow caps or melt the VRM. In any sort of normal usage, I'd say storage-media is by far more likely to die than a mobo is.

no, it's quite bad for the price

yeah, together with the bazooka, tomahawk and pro carbon for msi

I would suggest looking for a Asrock Pro4, it's a great motherboard on a budget

Never listen to sales people. Not even in local stores. Still never met anyone that had any idea what they were talking about. What local store was it?

It was Net On Net. I felt he was honest since he said things that I agreed with but I didn't want to blindly follow his suggestions. Hence why I'm here.

NetOnNet sales people do not know more about hardware than the average person does. Some of the people at technical support knows a bit but not much more :) Great place to buy stuff but do the research somewhere else.

Gigabyte's 4 phase VRM is the second worst you can get on AM4. It's absolute garbage. If you don't intend on upgrading to a >4 core, and don't intend on using it with the iGPU, it's fine.

for 2200G, the Gigabyte B450M-DS3H you are looking is more than good enough! get expensive board only if you have plans to get/upgrade to Ryzen 7 processors.

I second the AsRock PRO4 board they have both mirco and full atx and its a great budget board for the one i have running atm, i was considering cheaping out on a board for a build for a friend to the hdv asrock board, but based on feedback here, its not worth saving $15

if on a budget, Asrock B450 Pro4 or B450m Pro4. These cost around the same as GB DS3H.

If you plan to upgrade, and possibly overclock later, but don't want to spend a whole lot, pick something from MSI, ie.: Mortar, Tomahawk, Bazooka. And try to get at least 2933mhz RAM-s, ryzen&IGP will be grateful for that.

Life is really challenging. I don't always suceed: )
