What a do y'all want from the next gen ( console ) controllers?

Personally i want a more efficient bluetooth module, because i'll be using on my pc, bigger battery and usb type c.

From Playstation I want better bluetooth compatibility with windows. I've given up on using PS4 controllers over bluetooth to my PC. It never works smoothly. I always just hardwire them to the PC for gaming now.

Definitely want USB type C as well.

I wouldn't mind if they did away with the little touch pad part to keep costs down and give a cleaner look. I literally don't think I've ever used that.

I hope they don't change the size or shape too much though. I think it's pretty much ideal in that respect already.

Xbox 1 controller is very much perfect IMHO.

Only things I would improve are having an even better build quality and maybe add a couple more buttons to the back.

Ryzen 1600x @4GHz

Asus GTX 1070 8GB @1900MHz

16 GB HyperX DDR4 @3000MHz

Asus Prime X370 Pro

Samsung 860 EVO 500GB

Noctua NH-U14S

Seasonic M12II 620W

+ four different mechanical drives.

pretty much the perfect controller imo all it needs is internal batteries and USB C to charge.

Better blutooth, bigger battery, USB C, and better support when using on a PC.

Layout wise, Switch Pro Controller (either or between these two) Xbox One Elite Controller > PS4 Dualshock

But really, bigger battery is the top of the list.

better movement controls, more innovation in that area.

For shooter something like the Wiimote with 2 Analogue Sticks would be nice...

And a (small) Touchscreen would be nice as well.

Disagree, I say its more of a personal preference.

What you're used to is what you like the most.

I personally like them all, Switch PRO is nice, as is PS4 Dualshock, the XBox One is OK, though there are some problems with it (like lack of innovation).

People who say that the XBox One Controller is perfect just don't know other, more innovative things like Wii, WiiU, Switch or even the more innovative PS4 Games with some special controls (Infamous Second Son especially).

1

It's a pcie expansion card which adds both wifi and bluetooth connectivity. It was sold as essentially unbranded. Plain packaging and no logos anywhere on it, but when I go into device manager it tells me that it was made by Qualcomm Atheros Communications.

Do you think this card is the issue? Would another card perform better?

It seems to work fine for wifi. The only thing I've used to test the bluetooth on it are PS4 controllers, which have issues, as mentioned.

No doubt it is a personnel perference.

Not saying there should only be one.

And I used all those controllers, the PS4 Dualshock to my preference is below those.  Even more so the Switch Joycons below it.

really i got nothing. ive been using the xbox 360 nd later until now the xbox one controller exclusivly on my pc and they are both pretty much perfect imo. maybe bigger battery / internal battery rather than having me buy AAs. usb-c would be nice but i think thats coming anyway. for me biggest thing is cost. i know they are not that expensive but if you want to lets say get 4 of them so you can enjoy party games with friends over that quickly adds up and if there was like a budget version of it somehow i could get 3 of those for guests and one good one for when i play alone

Well, I'd say its mostly personal preference and less about the controller.

I tend to use the PS4 Controller more and thus like it a bit more than the rest.

The other stuff is not bad either.

There are some little (or more important) things on those Controllers for example the rather shitty D-Pad on the Switch PRO Controller or lack of Analogue Triggers (though honestly, you rarely need it, but it would be nice to have them again).

The only Controller I have a bit of a Problem with is the PS3 Controller. But that one is based on a 20 Year old design...

But the M$ Xbox One Controller and PS4 are both good, it comes down to throwing a coin or what you're used to.

The PS Controller has advantages when you want to use the D-Pad or need it.

I'd say that the Controller discussion is totally overblown and not as important.

They are all fine. ANd there is no reason to bash/flame either of them because of ergonomics.

Because of technical details, that's a different thing (and here you can bash M$ for not innovating at all).

I'd say that they are all three equal, with some minor disadvantages for the Switch Pro Controller (like D-Pad).

Hell even the Joycons aren't as bad as people claim they are.
At least for casually games.

For "Hardcore Games" with 4 Fingers on the triggers (2 per hand), the Joycons are not great. For 2 Fingers its fine.

So buttom line:
Switch PRO and PS4 come with "integrated" Batterys. They are (more or less) easily replacable.

XBox one Controller does not come with integrated batterys and work mostly with AA. To be frank: For PC Usage that might actually be better as you don't have a battery Charge indicator. THAT should be integrated to the Controller. Just a RED Led that lights up or whatever. Something.

PS4 and Switch PRO Controller can be paired via Bluetooth to the PC.

XBox One Controller not in the Original (IMO better looking) version with the shiny thing on top. Only the ugly version without the shiny parts on top its possible.

Vibration: XBox and PS4 Controller have the classic motor vibrators. They rumble well.

Switch PRO has some new Solanoid Vibration stuff. That is OK for the Joycons but doesn't work too well for the PRO Controller as too much mass for it to work (or the Vibrator doesn't have enough mass).

What really sucks is to use one Joycon to play a game. THAT is really awful and doesn't feel to good.

Both Joycons are fine however.

PC: Support: Good on Both XBox One and PS4 Controller. XBox One Controller sometimes doesn't work with some older (non Steam) Xinput Games.

There is an Xinput Wrapper for PS4 Controller.

Haven't found the Xinput Wrapper for the Switch PRO Controller, wich means its basically limted to Steam Games.

Hardware Features: Motion Controls on Switch and PS4 Controller. Speaker on PS4 Controller (you have to play either Rise of the Tomb Raider or the 2013 Reboot on PS4, they sadly haven't implemented the Use of the Speaker in the newst iteration).

Touchpad is nice, sadly hardly used, even on PS4 Exclusives....

Really sad is that for exmaple ubi doesn't use the touchpad for Mouse Controls in the Menu. That's what it was intended for and should be used for.

Share/Screenshot Button: Both PS4 and Switch PRO come with it.

So I hope that the next generation is at least the PS4 PRO Controller thingy on _ALL_ Plattforms or builds up on it -> Integrates a similarly sized Touch Display (=2"), 3-4" would be nice but I rather have a smaller Display than none.

No point in devolving the thread into a this is better than this or a this vs this thread.

Hmm.. depends on what I'm playing.

For retro and fighter games Nintendo has the best d-pad but the ps4 has the best placement for the dpad.  Put the nintendo style dpad on the ps4 controller and you'd have the perfect controller for games like Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter.

For most other games the Xbox One controller remains my favourite.  There's little I think I'd need added to it that would benefit me.  I use it the most on my PC.

Overall I'm very impressed with the Switch Pro Controller, PS4 controller and Xbox One controller.
