White substance on back of GPU

I just noticed a white substance on the back of my GPU. I built this PC a few months ago and dont recall if it was there when I built it.

 

Let me know what you guys think it is.

Jokes aside, that doesn't look normal. Perhaps excess thermal paste from the CPU?

Based on where it is located I would say not. I used pre applied thermal paste as well

Should I be concerned? Also, is it safe to whipe down the back of the GPU with all of the circuitry?

Upon closer inspection there is indeed white powder on the seam of the water cooler (not where it connects to the CPU) which is definately the cause. What do I do?

I can't be sure but to me it looks like your water cooling loop may have a leak and this may be corrosion, and all the coloring and additives in your water.

yes, don't use too much force on it.

white power is probably anti-corrosive in the fluid. Replace CPU cooler.

No it didnt. Shit, do you think that is covered under warrenty? I took special care installing the loop...

Don't use the PC with a leak. Clean the GPU asap. Send the cooler for an RMA.

Unfortunately it has been used for quite some time in this condition (my fault for not checking it out sooner). I will return the cooler,  but what about my GPU? It works, but could it be damaged? Also, if it is damaged, do I contact the water loop maker for a warrenty? I'm sorry for all of the questions, this is quite concerning

First drain that loop ASAP. Then begin the laborious task to taking apart a solid loop, isolate the cause of the leak, clean the GPU (carefully), replace any damaged gaskets (if necessary), if the block is damaged, replace it, and look for any other potential points of failure like sharp tubing, damaged fittings, and etc. Then rebuild the loop, test it with paper towels, and distilled water, if all is well then drain it again and add the normal coolant.

The manufacturer is not responsible for collateral damage, you will likely reach a dead end their, your GPU warranty is also likely null and void.

If it works fine, it will probably work fine. The card manufacturer won't accept the warranty since the issue is caused by the user (water damage, mechanical damage etc).

Good luck with the cooler manufacturer accepting to pay for the damaged graphics card.

If it still works then you will likely just need to clean it up with isopropyl alcohol.

Yes, few if any manufacturers warranty damage due to the operating environment.

If you got it from a computer store call them up after its cleaned and see if you can get a replacement.

I built it myself. The CPU cooler is made by DEEPCOOL. 

 

I won't mind replacing the cooler, but I am concerned that the GPU could have problems. And I am concerned that if I wipe away the evidence from the GPU I am shit out of luck if it stops working. If I decide to wipe it, do I use just a rag and water or alchohol?

Probably a leak from your AIO. Check it out to make sure that's the problem and RMA the cooler with evidence of the leak if that is indeed the problem.

 

Clean the spot on the GPU with 70% or greater isopropyl and a q-tip without applying much pressure. You don't want to break of any small components. It may not cause a problem now, but materials act weird over time and not cleaning it now could lead to problems in the future. I'm surprised the GPU still works, but as long as it works without issue then it works. No need to replace it. Even if you did replace the GPU I doubt you could RMA it without evidence of the card failing and if it was fried from liquid damage it would probably be deemed user error and not replaced.

Take some high concentration isopropyl alcohol and clean it off with that on a cotton swab,small cloth, or paper towel.

This kinds of things you should consider when using an AIO.

Shit happened its your $500 gpu on the line.

Maybe that's the purpose of a gpu backplate.

I used isopropyl to remove most of the gunk. The problem is that once the alcohol evaporates there is still some left over in the small crevices around the circuitry.
