Go and manually change the size of the pagefile. Control Panel\System and Security\System, then go to "advanced system settings", then "performance", then choose the "advanced" tab, under "virtual memory", click the "change" button. Here you can set the minimum/maximum sizes, leave as system managed, or choose to have no paging file.

What is a recommended size?

I recommend not turning off the page file because this can cause a mess of issues. At the very least, leave the maximum size at least a few gigabytes.

Yeah, I don't recommend it either... just saying what you COULD do.

I usually have mine at 2048 or 4096MB for min, and 8192 for max. You can leave it as recommended if you like, or system managed, but it could go back to using a lot of space.

Thanks, so would reducing it affect my performance as in gaming or Photoshop work?

Don't know TBH, just try it and see... if you see a big difference, either get more RAM or increase the pagefile again.

The old rule of thumb used to be 1.5x your RAM capacity would be sufficient. But obviously 24GB is a good chunk of space on your storage drive. So I think a better option would be to look in Task Manager -> Performance tab -> Memory page to see what your "Committed" size is (after using the computer for a while) and base the page file something around that. Maybe somewhere around 0.75x to 1.25x or whatever you feel is reasonable

It shouldn't, but the gist of it is the "Committed" value is how much memory is being reserved. The memory doesn't have to be in actual use but the OS has to make it available. So if you're not running out of physical RAM space, the OS will dump unused committed memory pages into the page file when apps need to use memory. And dumping unused memory pages to the page file is almost a free task because there's nothing to copy.

Do you have drive almost full? If not - leave it as is. You paid for your storage so use it.

No. Some software, like Adobe ones, just need it to be there. Its devs being lazy and covering their butts. You can do with 4-8gb pagefile just fine. And you can use which ever drive you want for it. Like big storage HDD and not your OS SSD.

I have small, 512mb, pagefile on SSD. Just because I once had Windows boot wihtout access to main HDD and boy was it choppy.
