4k @ 144hz

I currently have 2 gtx 980s in sli with a 1080p 144hz monitor (I play comp games like BF, destiny and the occasional CS etc, as well as pretty much every game)

I wanted to upgrade to 1440p 144hz, but I kind of feel like I've missed the train on this though, I might as well skip this, SO I want to jump to 4k 144hz, any recommendations on a setup able to run this? 2080ti in SLI (NVLINK) seems to be my best option, but should I wait to see AMD offerings? or what about a titan? (they're not really for gaming though).

Let me know your ideas

4K 144hz has some problems right now. First off you can't get it without overclocking the monitor which causes some loss in color space. Not to mention the monitors are $2000. I would stick to 144p 144hz for now.

4k 144hz seems like a bit of a gimmick to me since it takes literally thousands of dollars worth of hardware to run correctly while 1440p 144hz can be done on a single 2080 tier card in any game that would benefit from the extra refresh rate..

Do you need a full set up suggestion or just on that GPU?

As far as I know AMD's flagship is the Radeon 7 for this year and you can compare it to 2080. So I doubt they will be able to kill that 2080 Ti any time soon.

I'd go for 2x 2080Ti instead of getting a Titan tbh.

edit:

As the guys before said 1440p is the best way to go right now.

Not telling 4K gaming is not ready. If you have the money go for it. But there are not that many games that truely give you the 4K experience imo.

I wonder if would be even possible to run most new games at 144fps / 4K @ High settings. ( otherwise there's no point in playing 4K @ low when u can instead play on high on 1080p/1440p  ).
According to many SLI scaling sux nowadays in games, so even if u have x2 2080Ti i guess only 50% of the games will allow to reach 144fps stable ( mostly old ones and eSports ).

I'm using 1440p 144hz with a 1070ti. I play ultra/high settings and get 80-100fps in most games. Personally I think the improvement from 60 -> 80 fps is more noticeable than 80 -> 120

2560x1440 at 27" is ideal for a desktop monitor...4k makes a noticeable difference only when talking about screens of 40"+...like TVs for example...get yourself a nice high refresh rate 27" IPS display and you'll love it I'm sure

It's 77% more pixels than 1080p and its very noticeably better.

Yup Yup, Im getting my new 2080 in 2 days to the door.. Cant wait to see the 1440p  vsync area set to FAST ,,,,  and see if I get 144fps locked with minor dips with all nv panel settings on and all game settings to ultra..   Quake Champions    I can do this and get 100fps and some dips to 80's.  So I can only imagine that 100fps will fly to at least 150fps then I would need to get a gaming monitor but currently they cant do 35"   4k 144hz .. Cuz I need my desktop res to whats in my sig, and for gaming I would play @ 1440p....  Also FYI Q takes up 5.9GB of VRAM from my 1060,, and 17gb of ram total usage when inside windows your @ 5GB RAM usage avg without stuff launched,,,   BTW does battlefield and anthem come on DVD or I have to download it ?

4k 144hz is too much for current cards. The monitors also doesn't have enough banwidth on the ports (dp1.4a instead of 1.4, 2080 ti has 1.4a but the monitors don't). So 4k/144 is actually ran on 422, instead of 444/rgb. The only games where i'm not gpu capped is warframe and path of exile. 90% of the time i'm doing 4k/98hz rgb with settings on medium-high. I did play farcry 5 on windowed 1440p/144hz.

I'd recommend waiting til february to see if anything is announced, perhaps with an updated port, we are also at least 2 gpu gens off from running 4k/144hz compatibilty. I don't recommend SLI, at least not until the monitor display ports are updated to 1.4a.

As for the 1440p/144hz monitors, that depends on how much you want hdr10, as the new hdr4/400 1440p monitors doesn't look that impressive (fake hdr), so ask yourself how much you are willing to pay for better colors.

Edit: i actually did play the first 2 metro on 4k/144hz too, but those are older games, i plan to play anthem/division 2 on 4k/98. Also,

TBH you have not missed the train on 1440p 144hz. I play at that rez. However since your going from 1080p and there is a few good 4k high refresh monitors out there now and if you have the money for the high end hardware. Why not skip 1440p.

I plan on going 4k 144hz in the future but atm 1440p 144hz is the best middle ground. Its the sweetspot still.

Yes you can!, no need for 2 x titan just 2 2080TI $$$$ and a 4K @ 144 hz monitor $$$$$, you can see the benchmarks here:

i7 10700k @ 5.05 Ghz

Corsair H100i pro XT 240mm

MSI z490 tomahawk

16 Gb (2 x 8 GB) Patriot Viper Steel - 4000mhz - 16-16-16-34

MSI 1070TI titanium
