Synology DS1819+ PCIe: 10Gig Ethernet OR SSD Cache

I have the choice of expanding my DS1819+ with an E10G17-F2 for 10gig SFP to my UBNT 48 Port Edge switch or Dual SSD Expansion Card with 2x Samsung 970s 1TB for a good SSD cache. I have about 4-6 users accessing it at the same time, accessing our 4K video archive. we use Black Magic Recorders that export directly to the NAS over the network. their workflow is to offload the clip to an internal SSD to edit, then upload the complete clip to the NAS for Publishing on our plaforms. Seems like the 10gbps option makes more sense, if your editors are already used to copying content locally.

The SSDs would make sense only if the NAS can't sustain the write speeds your black magic recorders need, or if you'll want to load the videos directly from NAS and you want fast "scrubbing" through the videos.

Depending on how you setup your drives I'd lean towards the 10G. Even with HDDs the NAS can be pretty quick and therefore the benefits are higher with more bandwidth to the systems than an even faster cache. 120mb/s doesn't make sense to nvme storage.

We are using SHR-2 With 8x 8TB Seagate Ironwolf Pro 7200 RPM. 256mb cache.  the network is Maxed, however, we offload media with direct attached storage during the week as well. I am not at work to show network stats at the moment.
