the absolute best Z390 board atm is the MSI MEG Godlike.

though it is a bit pricey. other than that you have the step down model from MSI which is very nice motherboard aswell

Something not made by ASUS would be my pick, not a big fan of MSI but i heard the MEG Godlike is good

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

How much do you have for budget though? Gigabyte Z390 Aorus boards are the best when it comes to a balance of power and affordability, beats Z390-F in both sides.

I feel as though the Z370 Classified K that I'm using right now would be rather nice for a 9900k. 12 pin EPS power for the CPU, a healthy VRM count and substantial cooling, etc.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

ASUS's Z390 boards, except for the Apex and Extreme are not worth considering

They use a 4 phase vrm, not doubled, and even if they were doubled, still not worth it.

MSI's gaming Edge and gaming pro carbon have a 5x2 phase vrm  with meh cooling, but their Meg Ace and Meg Godlike are good.

as for Gigabyte: their boards are great. all of the aorus have a 6x2 + 1, but the ultra has a better cooling for the VRMs, and the master has better cooling and 6x2 + 2.

the extreme has a 8x2 vrm layout.

For a 9900k on a AIO or Custom loop, go with the Ultra, for  a 9900k with a overkill custom loop/best ambient cooling or single phase change (i.e. a triple 360 rad setup), and Master for LN2 or cascade.

Shame their VRMs on the Z390 are not the best. If you want a good bios, for overclock and very decent VRMs the Extreme 4 and or Taichi... depends on the budget you have.

Cool.. Then buy the most expensive one, don't bother if it's worse than the other ones in performance with cheaper cost.. The performance difference would be small, you might can't spot the performance difference, but you will pay more for it.. But I see that would be no problems for you..

I think it's safe to say that Gigabyte (Elite onwards) and MSI (Gaming Edge onwards) are your best bet and ASrock taichi(ultimate) and phantom 9 are also good.

But then again if you don't care about money then just buy one of the top tier motherboards - Asus Apex/Extreme, MSI Godlike and etc. and be done with it.
