Scrapping my eGPU GPU build

So I've been a longtime eGPU user (wild I know). And I'm finally transitioning into a job where I can stay in one place so I started thinking about swapping back to a desktop. I have the Aorus GTX 1080 gaming box so I already have the GPU, so this build is entirely focused on everything else.

 

CPU: Intel - Core i5-9600K 3.7 GHz 6-Core Processor  ($358.00 @ Powertop) 

• Yes I know it's an i5, but I'll probably get the 9900k sometime down the road second hand for the upgrade (2-3 years down the line)

Case: Fractal Design - Meshify C TG ATX Mid Tower Case  ($99.99 @ Newegg Canada) 

Power Supply: Corsair - RMx (2018) 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply  ($134.99 @ Amazon Canada) 

• 750w is hella overkill for an i5 + 1080 but this is something I'm gonna keep. 

Total: $1108.47

What is your max budget and what are you planning to do with this?

The only thing I would say is the Vengeance ram is usually way overpriced, I bet you can find cheaper 3200MHz. Other than that, everything is great

no max budget. just very value orientated shopper. and almost strictly for gaming. ZERO content creation.

Lemme know if you can link me something. I just wanted 3200-3600mhz ram with low latency. All these prices in Canadian rupees btw.

Done want to sound like some AMD fanboy, but you might want to wait until zen to, or at least invest in the AM4 ecosystem. While zen and zen+ are worse then intel at gaming zen 2 seems quite impressive, however they are your Canadian rupees and therefore it is your call.

For a gaming machine I find 240GB for the OS and clients such as Blizzard, Steam, etc. good.

All games will be installed on secondary drives, SSD or HDD.

This makes a system image with Win10 Backup and Restore (Windows 7) small to store and quick to replace.

Any probs down the road and 15min later your up and running with OS and all apps set up.

Good point. The difference between Intel and AMD for gaming is getting less.

Considering the $ value differences AMD is looking damn good.

@Billy Pilgrim @wONKEyeYEs the most relevant question is whether the top end zen 2 will beat out the 9900k in strictly gaming scenarios.

 

Value be damned. If Intel still performs better, it's gonna have to be Intel.
