Lewi2995lol

My pc setup is a i7 4770 16gb 1050ti not sure about the psu and motherboard but they happily run the 1050ti so would it run a amd rx3080

i realize the rx3080 has not been realsed yet but I’m planning for the future ???

No way to tell if it hasn't been announced yet and we have no information on power draw.

Oh really sorry my friend told me everything had been realsed but he didn’t know what the specs were

Well nobody outside of AMD actually has information on the 3080 since it's currently under embargo, although I can give you a rough estimate of what I think the power draw will be using the figures from previous Ryzen CPUs.

1. You can't re-use the motherboard you're using with your i7-4770. You're looking at a completely different brand of CPU with a different socket and chipset. That means you'll need to get a new motherboard and RAM since Ryzen does not support the DDR3 RAM you currently have.

2. What PSU do you have?

He means the graphics card not the CPU, motherboard is irrelevant, the i7 4770 might bottleneck the RX 3080 if it's performance really is between the RTX 2070 ~ RTX 2080 though.

The RX 3080 will use significantly more wattage than a GTX 1050 so yes knowing the PSU is required.

And all this when the RX 3080 is still a rumor.... hard to take it for a "legit" thread.

Thank you very much I will bear this in mind and try to take a look at the psu. Without opening it up anyway of working out the watts of the psu

I thought he meant like a Ryzen 7.. I never knew the RX 3080 was a thing.

Anyway @Lewi2995lol, I (or anyone else for that matter) can't actually give any figures on the 3080's power draw yet but I'd say if you have a 650W PSU it might work.

Nope, thought OP was talking about a Ryzen CPU. Never heard of any RX 3080 since it's just a rumour at this point. I've not really been paying much attention to tech news lately if I'm honest.

Why do you need to open up the PSU?  Just check the label on the side of the PSU and we can tell you if what you have is good or not.

Gonna say no. Unless the games you play aren’t cpu intensive. It will work though, if that’s all that matters to you.

if the rx 3080 is around 1080-1080 ti level performance, I'd probably change the whole platform and the psu(if it's too weak)

Damn....
