most heatsinks are aluminium with a copper contact plate.

some have copper heatpipes.

How do I know if my GPU heatsink is aluminum? I want to use liquid metal on my GPU but idk if it’s aluminum and I don’t want to damage my GPU's heatsink since my gpu was a good amount of money.

I have a MSI GTX 1070 TI Armor

I wouldn't use liquid metal on the GPU die itself. There really isn't much to be gained firstly, secondly if the liquid metal was to run at all to any of the board components since its not protected by a heat spreader like a CPU (probably won't happen, but still) it would kill your card. Just use a good thermal paste and you will be fine.

 

Plus, what are your temps anyways? My 1070 FTW runs in the high 60's with low fan speed....

My 1080 Armor was aluminum with copper heat pipes. Not good for gallium (liquid metal).
