Best performance per dollar GPU currently?

My wife wants a new PC for gaming so it's time for me to do some shopping. What's the best performance per dollar GPU right now? She doesn't play anything demanding, mostly LEGO games and Sims 4 but being able to play VR games is a plus. Thanks in advance. :)

Wow, I was expecting some people to say the GTX 1060. Looks like everybody is in agreement that it's the RX 580, how much better is the RX 580 compared to an RX 480 these days? I remember when the RX 580 came out it was only like a 10-15% increase in performance, has that changed much?

it really debatable, remember the rx480 4gb can re flash bios to make it 8gb.

so if you can get a 480 for cheap, go for it

The only reason I was looking at the 1060 is because for some reason she's been having some instability with AMD drivers so I was looking at some NVIDIA options, but if it's not even worth considering then I'll stick with AMD and see if a new install fixes things. :)

I have a RX 480 8GB I'm not using, I'll give that to her unless I can find a good deal on a RX 580.

If you already have a 480 8gb then just stick with that, you won't be upgrading much to the 580.  The 1060 wouldn't be much of an upgrade either for that matter.  For a noticeable improvement you would need to jump to a 1070 or better.

Thanks, I was just looking for an excuse to buy a new video card but I guess I'll shop around for something else now. :)

Does she already have a freesync capable monitor?

That would probably be a better use of the money right now to pair with the RX480 as it is already VR capable

Really? I never heard of a BIOS flash increasing VRAM capacity.

There was a rumour that suggested that when released they did not have enough 4gb cards so they used the 8gb and the bios limited it to 4gb. Never heard of it more then once or twice.

She doesn't, but refresh rate doesn't matter for her. I ended up just needing to a power supply so for around $60 she got a new PC. :D
