What laptop should I get?

I've been looking at other threads since I don't want to dry out a desert so to speak but it just wasn't enough like my scenario.

So I'm looking to buy a new laptop and I don't really have a bias Mac or windows. Right now a store near me is selling the base model MacBook air for $899 but still the spec to price ratio isn't amazing to me.

So I have several uses including writing essays and doing presentations for school. Doing basic 720-1080p video editing and some light gaming including the games from the depths, terratech, and a Minecraft modpack called pagemaster 2.

I'm obviously not expecting the battery life to last all day or anything if I need a dedicated gpu and as long as the screen is 15" or below I'm ok.

I'm mainly looking for suggestions because I'm not that informed on what's available. So anything around the $900 price point or a little higher is where I'm looking.

If there's other details I need to give I would love to give them but I'm mainly looking for ideas. Thank you!!

If that is the new MacBook Air, that is a FANTASTIC deal, but it is most likely the old silver model with a trash display and outdated everything.

But if we are going to be able to make any recommendations we are going to need a budget.

If you don't really need macOS, don't get macbook

Where are you from? Preferred max weight in kg/lbs and min battery life in hours? Is dGPU a must?

Comment on suggestions above: Dell 7577 has outdated CPU (i5-7300HQ), Helios 300 has bad cooling and OKish build quality, Nitro 5 has bad cooling and the model above has outdated CPU (i5-7300HQ). Bad suggestions.
