I really want to buy a oneplus 6t but it lacks the headphone jake, and considering the 6.

But, do you think its plausible they'd re add it on the a 7?

I may be wrong.

Headphone jacks are cool but no one really cares about them anymore. The market is moving on and apart from people who cling to their old headphones, it doesn't matter as much as it used to. Like ethernet, nice to have but don't need it. Very niche now.

Very unlikely. 

 

Once companies move with a perceived change, reversing it is very unlikely unless that change ends up losing revenue to a significant degree.

When you play competitive games you actually do need ethernet.

And still, the majority of all people who listen to music on the go, do it with wired headphones.

Just look around you next time, and write down who is listening with wired phones, and who uses wireless.

 

There are MORE than enough who care about the headphone jack.

I care, because i will NEVER move to wireless (much lower audio quality, another battery to keep charged, much more expensive, more likely to become junk once the battery is "done").

 

But: Using a USB-C --> 3.5mm headphone Jack adapter (well, adapter is not correct, since this dongle is a usb-c DAC) is a small Workaround for me without much hassle, if i'm getting a +400 mAh bigger battery.

No -- as a general rule, companies don't go back on major design decisions unless they prove severely damaging to sales.

 

This is why it's always amusing when you see someone refuse to upgrade their phone until company X "sees the light" and restores feature Y.  Since the company isn't going to budge, you know one of two things is going to happen: either the customer holds out for an unreasonably long time and upgrades to a new devices because they had no choice, or they come to their senses and upgrade like usual.

The thing is that companies don't see much negative effects on sales and revenue despite the negativity. The OnePlus 6T for instance, sold quite a ton still despite the lack of the headphone jack. 

 

I'm not defending them per se. I still think this is a crappy move, but we also have to remember that companies see and act only based on one criteria; money. Specifically what drives revenue and increases profit margins whilst reducing expenses simultaneously. 

 

Minus the marketing over how OnePlus is all about the community, they're still a profit-driven company, and they still focus on revenue to keep the company moving. Companies don't wise up unless there is a revolt of some kind that also has a significant revenue impact in a negative manner. 

 

I'd wager that if all of the negativity over the loss of the jack translated into a significant revenue loss, it would still be on phones.

With a good and properly managed router, the added latency (I'd actually be more concerned with packet loss than latency -- which indirectly leads to latency) is irrelevant for 99% of players. It's mostly just professional e-sports' players that would be negatively impacted.

That even less. Noone ever buys USB-C headphones/earphones, except they are included in the box (like Apple's Lightning Earpods). That's really a small tech-geek-niche, who are allergic to any additional cable/adapter

But considering someone made the step to smartphones without headphone jack, and use some in-ears ONLY with the smartphone and never else... i can see people chosing something like the Oneplus Bullets USB-C for 20 bucks. Affordable and they do their job.
