This quote is from the 'declined suggestion' thread in the feature suggestions sub forum:

A forum app
Due to limited resources available, and the functional mobile site, there are no plans to develop an app for the site at this time.

They don't seem any more interested in making an app now, which I agree with.. The websites work fine (can't judge floatplane though, I don't use it).

(In my opinion) the mobile website has been working just fine for the last couple years. Quite fast, supports most the stuff the full website supports.

Maybe they could make it a pwa if the mobile websites already work well.  It isn't that hard.

The forum works perfectly well with mobile web browsers. You can access all the sites mentioned on your mobile phone.

Just for a discussion:

Android is not easier to code than iOS, and it would make no sense to make platform specif app.

That said, stats shows, still today, iOS users are more open to spend money than Android users, and this is why most apps still comes to iOS first, then Android, despite the large market share differences. This includes accepting apps with ads or have a paid version. Unless there is a mass user base to push Android users to join in, it is more likely that an app, on Android gets 1 star reviews, despite a great, solid, polished app that has a small ad somewhere, or charges money, than on iOS.

They are a number of frameworks that allows cross platform app development as well. So an app can be developed once for both Android and iOS, and some can do Windows.

But the real future of apps (not games), for many of them, is PWA, something that both Microsoft and Google push and support.

PWA apps are web wrapped apps, but can have access to OS feature like push notifications, sensors, microphone, camera, share panel, sensors, save files on the devices, etc. like a normal native app. Sadly, Apple is not interested (because, like above explanation, lack of apps or getting apps, is a none issue, thanks to its user base)

The formatting system could be better though. Things like using smileys and tagging people is rather difficult. For example, X_D (underscore intentionally added) doesn't always switch to the laughing smiley, and you can't choose them from a list. Also, after tagging someone you can't type anything after it. Tagging has to be done as a last step.

PS: Just to test if it works this time, XD

Make sure to quote or tag me (@JoostinOnline) or I won't see your response!

They have added a (quite hidden) add to homescreen button to safari for ios, which is a (small) step in the right direction.

Well, there are some more rules for applying for an app to be in the appstore that are way more than the playstore. That's the biggest difference is that as far as I know. By the way, hi Luke
