Windows 10 Mail vs Outlook in Office Home & Business 2019

Canada EH

Hello ladies and gentlemen.

My only question is, what is the difference between Windows 10 Mail and Outlook in Office Home and Business 2019 ?

I called up our local Bestbuy store, the kind young feller did not know much but he patched me on through to the Geeky dude counter and I did not get a straight answer.

Also, we refuse to pay for monthly service. We want to buy software outright, we know 365 is bad, very bad. Locked to a pc, just like o/s.

I ask this because we are in a hurried rush to get the laptop operating to the users liking. Have to buy in a couple hours, flight schedules. He played around with W10 Mail, and seems to like it even though its different then the one he is accustomed to, Outlook. I tried to find out which Outlook he was accustomed to, but user does not know. The user does not like Thunderbird nor OpenOffice, even though I find them all the same but I am somewhat tech savvy, and 75 yr olds need their grey haired sons for tech stuff. There is quite a price jump to include Outlook, but hey sons have to please their fathers and money is no object. Bill Gates will get another $169.99 CdnPeso's from us for Office Home & Student 2019, locked into the new laptop.

My motto is, once the price breaches $1k, whats another C-note/Borden/Benjamin/Hunny ?

Thank you ladies and gentlemen

Have a wonderful weekend!

The Mail app is a simple mail app. It does what you expect a Mail app do.

Outlook in other hand is a mail app which has many features. You can send votes, send/receive/recall calendar events sent to people (recall support is for mail apps platform using MS Exchange server, like company e-mail or supported calendar platforms), can setup filters and do macros, auto archival, add RSS feeds, configure more how outlook look and behaves (like make text bold on the mail entry that aren't read, or not, set color, make it show/hide info.. for example if you don't want a preview of the mail in the mail selection panel, you can hide that. You can flag and categories e-mail, you can auto sort e-mail via rules. It is more of a complete Mail app, if that makes sense.

Most don't need outlook.

The price difference is ore than just Outlook, it is the license.

Home and Student allows you to make documents and use everything for personal usage and school, bit for running business.

The other license includes Outlook, and allows you to do business related work.

Be aware that:

  • If you are a student with a school e-mail address, you have Office 360 waiting for you for free. It is a subscription service (which is free if you are a student), which gives you 5 license for the latest and greatest Office version as it gets released. This means you can install a copy on your desktop, laptop, and/or other people at home.

  • If you don't have a school e-mail address, contact your school IT person/department, they may have Office suit for a ridiculously low price, like 10-15$ because you are a student
