Good zip ties for cable management?

P4r4gr4ph

Hey,

I know there isn't much to discuss about zip ties, but I want to be sure that whatever zip ties I'm buying won't fuck up my PC. The only features I'm looking for is that they're sturdy, re-usable, won't fry or melt in my computer, adjustable, and they're actual zip ties, not those shitty little paper ones. I'm not sure if it's common among zip ties, but when I asked a friend to bring over some zip ties, he brought some paper ones that only had some small metal wire through the middle. Needless to say, I am absolutely not going to get those types of ties.

Thanks,

P4r4gr4ph

Are you talking about "zip ties" or "ziplock" bags?

Re-usable zip ties are actually rather rare to find in person, but very easily found online.

I just order the cheapest ones I can find and not worry about it. You really don't need much strength for cable management.

Oh, I thought they were called ziplock ties, not just zip ties. Yeah, I'm talking about zip ties.

Depends on the country, in the US they're zip ties. In the UK they're "cable ties", etc. Depends on where you're from.

I bought these ones years and years ago and use them for all sorts of cable management. They're definitely cheap as hell, but they work. (but they're not reusable.)

Yeah, for stuff like this I tend to purposely use cheap zip ties because I'm likely to change it. Even if you use the reusable ones you're still going to cut the short so they're less reusable than you'd think.

Now if I'm doing something more permanent (like in a car), I specifically use nice zip ties.

Literally any zip ties. Luckily I never had to buy them, friends is an airplane mechanic so I have few hundred, small and big ones.

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

Zip ties can be a significant help securing stray wires to make your system neater.  Just be careful if you have to make adjustments later.  If you are not careful you could cut the wire along with the zip tie.  Also avoid twist ties like you would find on a loaf of bread (I assumed that is what you were talking about when you mentioned paper with wires in the middle).  The metal in the twist ties could touch your PCB and cause a short.

The perfect ones are the car audio zip ties that come with amplifier kits. Perfect and the same as the ones you get with a premium case.

Twist ties are not zip ties.

Reusible isn’t a common freature.

Better off just getting a large amount or use the fancy clips that adhere to the case.
