 this is my first pc so i will have to buy the monitor, keyboard, mouse etc 

the only black friday deal i missed was the corsair vengeance rgb pro 2x8 gb ddr4 3200mhz from memory express for 169.99

now as a review and reflection i want you guys to give me constructive feedback on this build, that can include anything really

Your build priorities are way out of wack, $3k budget can get you a better CPU, and you need a much better quality PSU. Also, that cooler is very overkill for an i5.

 

You need to spend money on parts that actually give you more performance.

My budget was actually around 2K lol 

your build is nice but here are my reasonings for picking the parts 

- the fps gain on 1440p gaming from swapping a 9600k for 8700k is not significan't enough to justify for the price gap (your part list didn't include tax and shipping on some of the items, i7 with tax costs 537CAD ish ) 

- I am not gonna be streaming or anything so i think I5 is the highest i would go in terms of CPU 

- The landlord pays for the electricity bills, so 80+ gold is nice to have but not necessary, unless it has more side benefits that i am not aware of 

- I am planning to overclock my cpu to try to reach 5ghz, so i do think a decent CPU cooler is necessary 

I do appreciate your advice tho, it really does help to look at things from a different prespective

No UPS. Get at least a decent 1300VA APC BackUPS series UPS.

 

Might also want to go higher end with the PSU as well, like a better EVGA or Seasonic X Series or Prime.

aside from saving the electricty bill, is there any other benefit for such an upgrade ? (ie more stable current? )

My bad I didn't mean to shit on your build haha, Didn't realize you had actually purchased these parts already. Ryzen would be better value for streaming then bit it's still a decent build.

 

Also, my PSU recommendation is based on build quality not efficiency, that 80+ bronze unit is not made of high-quality components. Leaving you susceptible to voltage ripple which can kill components, I'd replace it after a few years.

You are associating efficiency with build quality. Those are two very different things. 

 

That EVGA BQ 650W PSU is pretty crapy, it's a Tier 4 PSU. I typically never recommend anything below tier 3 at the absolute lowest.

looks like i will still have to do more research on PSU..

How expensive is 3000hz compared to 3200hz? Not much of a difference, especially on intel. Could be some easy savings.

 

I'd advise going for a 2080 rather than a 1080ti, assuming they're similar price. Ray tracing is meh now, but it'll get much better. If they're about the same price it's an added bonus that'll be worth it in the long run...plus, nvlink if you ever wanted to buy another

 

80+ bronze? Gold is better, something I'd recommend for the builds price point.

A good ups will have automatic voltage regulation and surge suppression, which will protect your expensive components from unnecessary wear or damage.

 

 In addition to that it will also kick in if the power goes out entirely, preventing data loss or corruption as well.

 

Wont really save you money on the power bill tbh but their purpose is to maximize reliability and uptime. I wont use a desktop without one.

Edit: just realized you were probably asking about the PSU.

 

Better PSUs are about reliability as well. You need enough power and stable power for your computer to work well and last a long time. The PSU and what protects the PSU(UPS) are the most important things to get high quality in a PC. Without stable power a computer is a useless paperweight.

 

For a single GPU system this should be good.

No problemo, if you are looking at a budget 80+ bronze unit the Corsair CX550m (grey label, green label unit is BAD) is the cheapest unit I can recommend for your build that is still a good option. But I recommend the EVGA G3 or G2 units, SeaSonic Focus Gold or Prime units, or the Corsair RMx PSU's.

Not that much, maybe 10-15, it's just my mobo doesn't support 3000 on pc part picker website, so i went with 3200 instead 

 

also i got the 1080ti when it was on clearence, before tax it was 860 CAD, too good of a deal to pass on not gonna lie

Also, not all 80+ gold or platinum units are good, like I stated efficiency does not equal quality. There is a lot of shit 80+ gold units out there, the ones I recommended are all Tier 1 and 2 PSU's these represent some of the best built PSU's on the market.

Fair enough.

 

With a significant difference it's a better choice to skip it. When AMD drops their ray tracing cards, and Nvidea drop second gen I'd imagine the 20 series will look very meh.

Equally important to the PSU is what you plug it into. I would not spend all that money on a 1080ti and the latest CPU and plug it into the wall or a power strip that offers no protection.

I've looked into some reviews and one on newegg said the asrock extreme4 z390 actually has a worse VRM than the z370 extreme4 when it comes to overclocking, but if you're willing to try for yourself if you've already bought it, you'll have to find our for yourself.

if you have the opportunity get a better board. The gigabyte z390 boards are crazy good

Yeah, cause it's built into your rent  You think your landlord actually pays for electricity out of his own pocket? Lol no. Rent goes up because people think they don't have to pay for utilities, so they leave everything on. Same is true for college campuses.

 

And get a better PSU. This build is so weird... Shoulda posted before buying. You can get advice within an hour, and you still could have purchased on black friday.
