Apple apples again

Not going to bother writing this out in detail, so someone else can (original articles from CNN et al) for the tech news section, but here we go again.

Pretty much completely agree with Louis' statements on this though.

 

 

Apple trying to close third party refurbishers out of the loop.

 

Now, there are two main problems with this.

1. Apple officially sanctioned repairers do a shit job. Example: 'fixing the smc' by placing a rubber pad ontop of it to increase pressure instead of proper resoldering it w/ underfill. Fixing minuscule issues by doing full motherboard swaps. Poor pcb board hygene in repairs. 

A trustworthy third party repair place legitimately offers better quality repairs than Apple's sanctioned repairers do. Obviously any offered warranty however is from the third party and not from Apple (unless the Apple warranty is still valid).

 

2. Apple official repairers charge ludicrously higher prices for the same solution. Think the recent Canadian news piece about the insane prices and overcharge for repairs. Think the whole iMac Pro crap with LTT. The list never stops.

 

If 1 and 2 were not already true, this would be less of an issue. But both are.

Apple's trackpad is still the best in the industry, so if I have infinite money I would buy a MacBook just for the trackpad experience. Cause why not?
