Is everyone holding out for the new Nvidia cards too?

I feel like just a few months ago,everyone was wanting to buy a 1080ti at $800+ and now,we've slowly started to ignore our graphics cards.No one has openly mentioned it but I think we're all just secretly waiting for the new Nvidia cards and have dropped the price of high end cards based on that hope alone.I know that personally,I'm not going to try to upgrade my 1060 until October.

Im waiting for a fat check and new AMD or nvidia pro cards depending on the tech. Probably AMD because of the higher price/preformance on their professional cards. 

 

I wanna wait for threadripper 2, but find vastly different information on its planned release.

If I hadn't already snagged a 1080 last November for a very good price I'd probably be holding out to see what's coming out next.

Given how long my original 780 lasted me (it's still a decent card for 1080p) I'm probably going to run this card for at least 3 years before looking at replacements.

I'm just trying to figure out what it's going to take to get my pair of Titan V's talking over NVLink...pretty sure BIOS and graphics swap to the new Volta Quadro stuff will do the trick but I haven't had time to monkey with it and can't find the Quadro GV100 BIOS yet.

New cards probably won't be better than a 1080 Ti or Titan Xp for a bit, since they always release the Ti and Titan cards a good while later after the initial launch models.

I bought a 1080 last August, so I'm not waiting. However if I did want to upgrade, I would be waiting.

I just paid $400 for a lightly used 1070 founders 2 weeks ago. I figured upgrading from no gpu was better than waiting. And really how much power does one really need when they casually game and don’t even own a monitor?

Yeah since the GTX 11xx Serie is coming in July, I basically am holding myself against clicking that "Pay" button on a new system with 1070 and hoping the price for GTX 1080 will drop so I can finally get one good rig.

I’m struggling with this too.

 

About a month back, the Asus 1070ti was on sale on amazon.ca for $634 CAD +tax. I ordered one but it was out of stock until now and they’ve just emailed saying they’re going to be shipping soon. 

 

Right now I’ve got an evga 970ssc that’s doing ok for most things still so I don’t know if I should take the 1070ti or cancel the order and wait for what’s next. 

 

Any thoughts?

Unless you absolutely need an upgrade,I think I would wait to be honest.Even if the new cards get released in 2 months,I'm still going to hold onto my current card and just leave it as a backup.

New cards probably won't be better than a 1080 Ti or Titan Xp for a bit, since they always release the Ti and Titan cards a good while later after the initial launch models.

Aren't the new cards supposed to launch with DDR6 instead of the current DDR5 memory though?

that's a very strong rumor, yes. I'm not sure how much of a real-world difference that would translate to in gaming though. I guess we'll just have to wait and see like usual eh?

Not holding out for anything. Got every card and have been disappointed in some way. But as my old rigs can keep up with the cards in the games I enjoy, I wouldn't be able to use the next gen cards anyway.

I WAS 1 of the many people that didnt wait and had bought 2 1080 tis but I came back to my senses so I returned them and then I found an nvidia 1080 fe at best buy for $549 so I bought it and I'm still going to buy the new 1 when it comes out(or wait for the 1180 ti) and plan to give away my 1080 to my brother in law

People who own 1080s or 1080 TIs shouldn't have much to worry about tbh, unless they really want to mess around with the new RTX tech. 

 

Personally I'm going to wait until Turing's successor, because they should have RTX refined quite well by then. Maybe.

It may be rumor . I read new gpu`s can run 4k with more than 60hz 

for exapmle 4k monitor 75hz or more

I have been gaming at 4k for 3 years now with a somewhat compromised experience as you would expect, went from SLI 970s to a 1080 in September, I wanted to wait for 1080ti but was above budget. Waiting for the 11 series and this time for the 1180ti or whatever it ends up being called. 

 

I think generally its never good to buy GPUs when a new line is less than 6 months away as you will just get less price/performance and have buyers remorse in the near future.

 

The only reason I upgraded to the 1080 was because one of my 970s died after two years of daily use heavily overclocked

I'm cruising along with an EVGA 960 SSC 4GB and was hunting high and low for a 1080 or 1080 Ti and avoid paying out the wazoo.  I'm just going to wait and try to snag a next gen and get started on my Ryzen 2 build then.
