wow.

Not that anyone can afford 10gbit switches and have 10gbit ethernet on all of their devices.

And yes, I get we need to push technology, but when the max average usage of residential is around 250mbps and the collage dorm here that has around 400-600 students maxes at 1gbps, trust me, you DONT need 10gbps.

Also the advertising is great, but 99% of the time people dont even know what their speeds are nor care.

I think that's exactly why they are offering for such low prices. Barely anybody will be able to utilize it, so for them it doesn't matter if they sell 1Gbps or 10Gbps. It will be the same load on their equipment anyway. And since they are building a new network using new equipment, why not invest a bit more and go for 10Gbps capable stuff? It will be needed in the future anyway.

I know we dont, our storage drives arent even capable of the speeds (sata ssd and hdd). But having that extra spread across several devices on home network means everyone gets that 1gbps at all times if router is of a good quality.

They aim high and im all for it whether they succeed or fail.

But my point is you will never need a gig....you dont even need over 250 really. If a college dorm of 600 students constantly using internet for netfilx and porn cant reliably saturate a gig connection then how do you think a residential of 4-5 people will? (dont say steam either)

You'd be lucky to even get 8 on a public speed test node.

Our 10 gig connections we have to test with iperf to get anywhere near accurate speeds. But people would expect 10gigs and complain that their speed test are only maxing at a gig.

In a smaller city it might not be a problem or if they are granted to upgrade all their equipment to 40gb and deploy enough nodes it wont be a problem.

However, here in merca, there is still a shit ton of legacy equipment and long distances to travel compared to Sweden. Its just too expensive (profit wise) to deploy here.
