Difference between AX and AXi series PSU's by Corsair?

legend8887

What's the main difference between these? The AXi series is digital power and the AX isn't. What does that mean?

Power draw monitoring is nice.

I also *think* that the non "i" units still have the feature where the fan won't turn on until it is under some kind of load. It could be the other way around.

Also note that some AX units are having problem with coil whine.

For aesthetics of the label if you are color scheming, the AX is red/white where the AXi is red/grey.

My AX 850 is gold :S But Glenwing basically summed it up, although I think Flextronics might just be adding the Corsair link functionality (speculation, I know, but it might make or break a buy as Seasonic PSU have low ripple)

Corsair link.  You can hook the AXi units to a USB header and monitor your power draw and PSU temps and things like that.  AXi is also manufactured by Flextronics while the AX is manufactured by SeaSonic.

You did not mention about digital power and that AXi are junk, due to it using digital power, and being made by a crappy OEM.

Thus AX series will be better IMO.

Flextronic isn't by any means a crappy OEM. They have been designing/making PSUs for various of industry including the PC for quite a while. If anything, I would rank them above Seasonic.

The AXi had proven itself to be an excellent performing, well-build power supply. Of course, the Corsair Link is a bit gimmicky since it isn't exactly give you very accurate readings and due to it high price, I wouldn't recommend it in many cases.

Flextronics is a very reputable OEM.  I'm not sure what you're talking about.  I don't have any preference between them and SeaSonic.

Just not as good as seasonic, more like channel well (which sucks.)

The main problem is still the digital power on those psus though.

Many people experienced problem with AXi that will not happen in AX.

I would rank Flextronic higher than Seasonic. Oklahoma Wolf, one of the main reviewers at Jonnyguru, also have made such comment recently. Regardless of how you rank them though, they are both solid OEMs.

Depending on what unit we are talking about, Channel Well Tech have units that range poor entry levels to very good high-end units, like many OEMs. The PUQ-G build HX are indeed solid and is well build.

What problems does people have with the AXi other than inaccurate readings from the software?
