VERY high temps with h100i and 6700k?

nixtone

Hey guys just upgraded from h80i to h100i v2.

My 6700k idles normally it seems but under load in easy games like csgo it hits 85 degrees sometimes higher.

In stress tests it hits quite high too. What could be the issue? I've got it top mounted with 2 sp120 fans underneath blowing air out of the case.

This is a pic under realbench load:

Everything is stock. No OC.

87 degrees?
Ambient temps are probably around 30 degrees maybe a tad less.

Any ideas? Thanks

try reseating the cooler and look if the thermal paste had enough spread on the cpu from the last mounting

I used some generic kind and the preapplied paste. If I remember correctly there’s quite a lot on there. I bought some proper stuff as well I might have to reapply it

Could it be because it’s not tight enough? I think it’s about medium tightness

@nixtoneYou could try tightening it a little more just make sure you do it evenly and carefully. Also people usually say you have to do it in a cross pattern to make the paste spread evenly.

Make sure to quote or tag people, so they get notified.

So, this is really odd. I tighted it up it was kinda loose (not loose enough that it could move but the screws needed heaps of tightening)
Anyway, I went into bios and set everything to default, reloaded XMP and clicked 'no' when it asked to change intel clock options.

Now it's hitting max 67~ degrees instead of 88.

Wtf? Could tightening it really make that much difference?

That's honestly insane

Is this a new install or an AIO you have been using for a while? AIO's do loose coolant over time. If it isn't the mounting causing the issue, your pump could be going.

whoops. I missed that this was an upgrade from an H80.

if there is a loose fit on the cooler there might have been a air gap where a good transfer was taking place. u basically have to hand tighten it all to where u cant tighten it anymore.

just dont do it with a screw driver if you know what i mean

Yes. All it takes is a tiny gap. Heat cannot transfer well over dead air space, or a thick coat of thermal paste.

Interesting. I realised in my last post when I enabled xmp i said I hit 'no' and I realised it disabled my turbo boost meaning I only hit 4ghz instead of 4.2

I re-enabled xmp and selected 'yes' and it changes my voltage to 1.42 or something? That's why it's so hot.

Wtf? I changed voltage to adaptive and change it to 1.3 max and my temps are super low now.

Wtf?

Now I'm averaging under 60 degrees and hitting 60 degrees MAX.

Could I go even lower with the voltage? 1.3 seems high for stock

keep dialing it down until the system starts to need more power.  i think my board is running my 6700k at 4.4ghz on what ever voltage it deems ok. but i got a big rad setup so it compensates for any extra voltage heat.

about 90c is where you should be woried at max. 80 and below is where i would be comfortable. its to be expected with a AIO

Sweet sweet.

It's at 1.22v atm and under Intel XTU I'm averaging 51 degrees. When I booted the PC and started realbench it hit a one time high of like 63 or something.

Super good.

EDIT: Idle temps dropped 10 degrees as well.

Very nice. My idle is probably the same as my ambient atm, hitting mid 20's (feels warmer, I live in the tropics)
Load in csgo was 55 degrees max. Might try and OC. What voltage is yours? And 4.4ghz ye?

Is that really as low as the H100 will pull under load? Have you set your own fan and pump curve? I have a 6700 with a Noctua NH-C14s with a second NF-A14 installed and under torture test the max I can get it to hit is about 54C.
lol. I also just notice you have the same motherboard I do as well. The Z170 Extreme 7+ kicks ass.

Read my signature and make sure you're not getting issues with other programs fighting Link (HWmonitor, HWinfo, CAM, and AIDA64 all have known issues).

Second, the mount on those coolers is critical and makes a huge difference. Check what the water temperature is after extended load. After a 10-15min stress test, the water temp should be within 25C of the CPU temp (e.g. if the CPU temp is 65C, the water temp should be 40+C). If the water is not heating up with the CPU then you likely have a bad mount and need to remount it. The tubes of that AIO are very thick so make sure you mount the block first, with the tubes perfectly relaxed, to get a flush mount. Then you can mount the rad into the case and bend the tubes.

Having issues with a Corsair AIO? Possible fix here:

Spoiler

Are you getting weird fan behavior, speed fluctuations, and/or other issues with Link?

Are you running AIDA64, HWinfo, CAM, or HWmonitor? (ASUS suite & other monitoring software often have the same issue.)

Corsair Link has problems with some monitoring software so you may have to change some settings to get them to work smoothly.

-For AIDA64: First make sure you have the newest update installed, then, go to Preferences>Stability and make sure the "Corsair Link sensor support" box is checked and make sure the "Asetek LC sensor support" box is UNchecked.

-For HWinfo: manually disable all monitoring of the AIO sensors/components.

-For others: Disable any monitoring of Corsair AIO sensors.

That should fix the fan issue for some Corsair AIOs (H80i GT/v2, H110i GTX/H115i, H100i GTX and others made by Asetek). The problem is bad coding in Link that fights for AIO control with other programs. You can test if this worked by setting the fan speed in Link to 100%, if it doesn't fluctuate you are set and can change the curve to whatever. If that doesn't work or you're still having other issues then you probably still have a monitoring software interfering with the AIO/Link communications, find what it is and disable it.
