WTF is with my school pcs.

In my new High School, freshmen have a class called ddp. Digital Design for production. We are going to do stuff like 3d modeling. Every freaking pc in ddp has a quadro m4000 16 gb of ram, a 500 dollar xeon processor. There are 2 rooms that I know of one with 33 pc and one with 66. There might be more rooms. So they spent at least 150, 000 dollars on pcs. Im shocked...

Too be clear im not complaining my sister also went to my high school before me and they had such trash pcs at that time. My sister said they crashed a lot and were super slow so sometimes after you put 1:30 min of work into a project and it crashed.

They are also buying new monitors as the current ones arent full hd, tn panel and just trash in general.

My local elementary school apparently got towers with i7-6700s and 970s.

 

An elementary school.

 

This is where my tax dollars are going..giving kids gaming machines.  No wonder Illinois is broke.

Why would elementary schoolers need that lol. Id throw in an ssd into a pentium machine with 8gb ram and call it a day. At least now they can play cool math games at 1000 fps.

The only reason I'm here is that I have homework that I don't want to do

That's what they should be doing, just basic hardware that's enough for school tasks... doesn't have to cost much at all, but you can still make it feel snappy and modern despite being cheap if you remember to include an SSD lol

Now obviously if you're doing 3D modelling you actually need good hardware, but the majority of computers could be Pentiums with 4 GB and it would be fine.

that is what you thought and if the school read this they would think, damned if you do and damned if you don't.....they probably got those PCs as a donate from a rich school and the rich school got a tax write off.

I even think a 128 gb ssd would suffice. Max they will do is chrome and word.
